I am taking a fondante class. We are learning different flowers to make. We are learning how to do roses, carnations, and a few other flowers. For our last class our homework is to bake a cake and ice it in regular icing and bring it into class. We also have to have to flowers that we want to put onto the cake already made up as well and dried out. So that way they are firm and not a little soft when putting them onto the cake. Well i have no clue what color fondante icing i want to cover my cake with. And then on the other hand i have no clue what kind of flowers i want to make to go onto the cake. Anyone have any suggestions?

does it have to be just 1 kind of flower?? i was thinking that if you made a few of may be each of the flowers you could do like a boquet witht the flowers. i think maybe do the icing a simple color and then maybe make a vase and at the end put stem and the flowers bunched together. that is my opinion adn i am sure it would be really hard and take a lot of time lol but i think that would make an awesome cake :)

I have thought alot about it over night. I have figured out what I'm going to do but not going to tell anyone until I'm done and my class is over. Do you happen to now how to upload a photo in a discussion? If so I will start a new discussion with a picture of the cake :).

My daughter in law has always wanted to take a class on that....and I have too! For fun. I guess I would think about what occasion I would like the cake and go with that after I made up my mind.....kids birthday probably bright colors....shower....if baby or wedding paler colors....good luck! Sounds like so much fun!

Well i dont have anything that i am really making the cake for. My husband says that he is really ready for me to get it done so he can eat it lol. You can tell your daughter in law and for your self you guys can go and take the class together. If you have a Micheal's or i would think any kind of craft store you can go and take the class. Im taking the class at a michaels.

I would do white with yellow flowers and green leaves. I think I'm just in spring mode right now though.

Lol i now the feeling lol. I now for sure i will be putting green leaves on my cake. Im not that fond of yellow flowers. I am kinda thinking that i would really like to do something different that you would not normally see anyone doing. I love being different. I want to do a different color flower that you would normally not see any where. But i will think about you idea thank you very much for your post and idea.

Congratulations on the cake decorating class. Given your situation, I recommend doing a simple green and making it look like a garden. Snap dragons and sunflowers are fun to make out of fondante. It has been so long since I used fondante to decorate with. A little to sweet for eating in my opinion, but fun to decorate with.

I had never heard of fondante until my mom took another class and i wanted tolearn howto do it myself. That is a great idea to do a garden cake. I will so keep that in mind when making my flowers. Thanks for your post. What all kinds of cakes have you decorated with fondante?

I always want to attend a class like the one you attended but my schedule wont allow me. For me, I think it would be nice to cover your cake with white so that the colors of the flower would stand out or a very pale color of your choice. Then decorate the piece with flowers of different kinds or with a single kind of flower. Include some butterflies and make it in a fairly land theme sprinkled with gold dust :D It is up to you, just do not forget to have fun and explore your capabilities.

I like that idea very much. The only thing is i have no clue how to even start to make butterflies. That would be really kool though. I am thinking that no matter what i do i am going to stick with white to cover the cake with. Im also thinking about just sticking with one kind of flower and 2 colors. We will have to see everyone is giving me some really great ideas for it. I have alot to think about. You can also take the classes at i would guess any craft store you would be able to take these classes. I am taking this class at michaels craft store. Thank you for your post and your ideas.
