Limits To Growth

The insane Growth myth that runs so much of economic practice today spawns a large number of usually right-wingers who do not accept that there are far too many people on the Earth. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, since so many usually right-wingers also refuse to accept the reality of global warming and/or human responsibility for many of the relevant factors in global warming. In line with this is the plan by the ultra-conservative parliamentary opposition in Australia to offer a baby bonus to prospective mothers when (if) they return to power. I am appalled. The last thing in the world we need is governments encouraging more population growth, yet this is apparently what these maniacs want. So why would they do it? The answer lies in the aforementioned insane Growth myth. In the name of the continuous growth of profits it is essential that populations increase, because with the success of Economic Globalisation all the existent markets are approaching saturation point. Without more people to sell products to, although how they are supposed to pay for those products is a bit of a poser in the face of the economic practice of cost-cutting by way of labour minimisation, Growth cannot continue. So, in the course of creating as much short-term profit as is possible they are blithely creating instead a medium and long-term disaster for their children and their children's children, and u'timatley for the human race and the Earth itself. It's intriguing how a Capital letter can make such a difference: Capitalism/capitalism, Growth/growth, Globalisation/globalisation. The one is an ideology with all the faults of ideological constructs, and the other is a natural human/economic function. How do we rid ourselves of these Capital Errors? Lash

Limitation of resource and overpollution will bring out wars ultimately. We also need admit that war is effective way to reduce the population and stimulate the productivity, regardless of its brutalities. It doesnt meat im a militant. The histry show us that the major battle always resulted from benefit assignment and resulted in short-time economic recessiion and long -time economical development.Hoewever ,i still expect the goverment take their responsibilities to limit the gowth and avoid wars.

That growth myth actually contradicts what I know about population growth too. Population growth is only good if there are resources to sustain it. If not, it will end up costing the country alot more than it makes it. I suppose that educating the citizens is the only way I would know to nip it. Where educating the citizens about population/income ratios/living standards and, as controversial as it is in some places, birth control there has been a significant decrease in population growth and a rise in GDP.

Jen, every time somebody tries to introduce these concepts into educational systems the Right screams about left-wing propaganda and moves heaven and earth to stop it. I saw something the other day about Republicans trying to ban birth control tablets in the States, just another example of their blindness. Lash

I know but I wish they could see if people were allowed to be educated and birth control made available, it would help. After a couple of children women will normally opt-in for the choice..lol.
