Can someone tell me the fascination with The Hunger Games movie?

I have not seen this movie and I'm just trying to understand it. Just wondering why people are so captivated by a movie based on the fact that 24 young people have to fight to the death on national TV. Why do we want to watch young people getting killed? I know many have really liked this movie and as I have said I have not watched it. It is probably a very good movie but just the whole premise of the movie is turning me off. Am I alone on this? Should I watch the movie to understand it better?

Im with you Mg Grand daughter (11) said she has read book 1 and now book 2 of Hunger Games. She says they are interesting and really good. I heard the movie was out and asked her mom if I could take GD to see it this weekend when she is here and Mom said she didn't want GD to see the movie. I'm going "what?" she can read the book but not see the movie? But my daughter is a "text only" person so I didn't go into it as I don't text. But I pulled a short review about it and it says there is a group of 12 "commmunities" and every year 2 kids from each community have to fight..."and the only way to win is to kill the children". That is what it said! I'm going..."are you serious?" a movie with kids killing each other? Granted it is in the future some similar earth planet thing, but still...kids killing each other and it is all the rage? It is predicted to be the biggest March blockbuster in movie history...pulling in more than the Harry Potter ones! I just don't get it. Violence is all over the place on tv...even just prime time...and everyone just drinks it up! I just don't get it. The movie is rated PG13.

Thank you! I thought I was the only one that thought this was just not right. And yes, I know violence is all over the place but everyone just seems to be going so crazy over this movie. To me I just don't get it. Maybe I'm getting old :D?!

For young people easily impressed. It was not a movie I waited anxiously and i did not claim too much, as proof I have not been to the cinema to see it. After viewing, I declare myself satisfied with my choice. A weak and boring movie that I hardly finished. I did not saw traces of tension, drama and "romance" are ridiculous, the characters are underdeveloped, as the story may be predictable, too much time, directed mediocre unimaginative, ineffective soundtrack and effects .... which effect? ! The only positive things we found was Jennifer Lawrence and clear way that shows the power of media manipulation.
