Everybody else already said it for me...but instead of using either milk or boiled water, I eat my oatmeal only using lukewarm water. It's more malty that way. Boiled water tend to kill the nutrients I can get from the oats too. As others had already said, Oats is a good source of fiber. It can help your digestion and has protein (plant protein) which is, in my opinion, better than meat protein. I guess it also helps prevent heart problems as well since oats is part of the diet of those who are experiencing such diseases... I'd say it's good for taking out a few kilos off of a person as well...if you're in a diet to lower your weight...

Welcome to Mylot Kalyan227! Oats is fibre so this helps you release toxins and fats. One major problem i have with oats though is that it is high in uric acid which would then cause gout. My take on this is that yes you may take oats but you have to push yourself to do exercises often as well so that the uric acid crystals would be released in your system and not be stored in your joints. Apart from exercises, drink plenty of water.

I think oats or oatmeal is a very good source of fiber and could be the best food for those in weight-loss program. Also, this will help you reduce blood cholesterol. Accodring to some experts, oats or oatmeal help reduce belly fat. I usually used water them mixed it with fruits like apples or banana.

Oatmeal is the healthiest breakfast you can have & this is especially true if your Biological predisposition is to weight gain, diabetes & cholesterol problems. 1. Oats consist of a specific soluble fiber known as "beta-glucan". This particular soluble fiber breaks down as it passes through the digestive tract. It forms a gel that 'entraps' cholesterol rich substances like bile. Once this entrapment occurs, LDL molecules are prevented from moving into the blood stream while the concentration of HDL molecules remains unchanged. 2. As far as weight control is concerned, when soluble fibers are digested, it causes the viscosity of contents of the stomach & small intestine to increase. This, in turn, allows us to feel more full for a longer time leading to weight control. 3. It helps control blood glucose & insulin levels helping control all of the problems associated with diabetes. Basically, this means that you should have oats at least thrice a week to get the maximum benefits. And, the healthiest meal would be oats & water...

Hello kalyan, good you started this discussion, I was also wondering the same. Recently oats are being advised by a lot of people here. I still don't know what it is made up off or how does it help us. I hope you get some answers here. I will also keep looking back for some valuable responses.

First of all, Oats or Oatmeal is a great source of fiber. It's also highly nutritious because it includes some vitamins from the B family called inositol and choline. Those 2 vitamins help our cells absorb the water we consume. Oatmeal includes carbohydrates and protein; however, there is no sodium in it. If you consume oatmeal with milk you will be adding sodium and possibly, fat. If you consume water only you wouldn't have the sodium. Whether or not you use milk or water is a personal choice.
