before this game, we do hope that APOEL once again make a surprised but after the game, we must admit that the chance of madrid goes to semifinal is opening widely..no doubt with 3-0 in apoel home, its miracle for any APOEL fans for seeing their club can make a goal more than 3 goals and can passed into semifinal phase.. madrid is too powerful than Apoel..no doubt. no more surprising two goals from benzema and one goals from kaka, make Madrid can feel that they only think about their opponent in semifinal.. starting line up APOEL Nikosia: Chiotis, Poursaitides, Marcelo Oliveira (Kaka 13'), Paulo Jorge, Boaventura, Morais, Pinto (Solari 72'), Charalambidis, Trickovski, Alexandrou (Sousa 46'), Almeida Real Madrid: Casillas, Arbeloa, Pepe, Sergio Ramos, Fabio Coentrao (Marcelo 64'), Khedira, Sahin (Granero 84'), Benzema, Oezil, Ronaldo, Higuain (Kaka 64')

Yes, real madrid won3 goals in cyprus and it's hard to see Apoel doing a miracle win of 4 goals in real marid's home turf. Real madrid is bound to win, but by how many goals? That's what most supporters has in mind. NO matter what, Apoel has done themselves proud by progressing to this stage of the competition. They have topped their group to come this far, which by all means is no easy feat. Thumbs up for their tight game yet grinding results when it matters most. With that, Apoel has nothing to lose and they just have to enjoy their football match in their final champion's league match for this season.

Finally the fairytale was busted brutally by the Spanish in the last 16 minutes of the match. What a result it would be if only it could remain at 0-0 after 90 minutes! Nobody had expected the Cypriot team could be in the quarter-finals. Nobody had also thought that they could stop Real Madrid. The unexpected and the expected all happened. It shows just what football is. Yes is correct. No is also correct. Those so-called football experts may well be using a dice to predict a result. It may be probably more accurate.

so maybe APOEL must play with nothing to Lose they must play without fear in santiago bernebau.. because lost 1-0 and lost 3-0 is still same meaning for them in one side..

Too bad for my fellow Cypriots. They gave a nice tone in this year's UCL season but unfortunately their way of playing, their enthusiastic home crowd and their luck wasn't enough this time. But just thinking about team budgets the difference is gigantic. RM is around 450 (!!!) million euros while APOEL has only around 10-15 million euros team budget!

Most of the teams that Apoel won this year had a higher team budget (Porto, Zenit, Shahktar) I was just pointing out the difference between the team budgets :)

Hiya adhyz, Very well done to Real Madrid that always takes a lot of verbal bashing by Spanish Commentators here on the Spanish Television. I am so glad that they have won too they have done really well to get up to here. I think that any Team that manages to make it through all that deserves a Medal. We have a Football Team here with broken wings it was once a very great Team won´t mention the name of the Team though. The Players do not get paid half the time they have to wait a long time to get their money and yet some of them are still playing. They lost their best Trainer too but here there are quite a few Teams like that once great and have fallen on bad times. I wish that they could take heart although its very difficult to do that and know about my Home Town Wolverhampton Wanderers that started the climb back up to the top with a Stadium that was more fallen down than standing. With leaks in the Roof and having to wait to get paid and all kinds of calamities. I honour all those kind of Teams that have the courage to keep going as they have some really great Players but alas no one knows about them so well done again Real Madrid. Athletic Bilbao is another Team coming back out of its ashes so to speak. Reckon that will all that effort they make they do deserve a Medal. My Home Town Team is going down again but they will be back and how I know they will. Don´t get me wrong I love Barcelona they are fantastic but I don´t forget the ones that are in the Background quietly playing away as well. Have no doubt that the Cypriot Team is great too. Will try to get to see this Match if I can.xxx

Hiya adhyz, Not that I am not interested its just that I don´t have much time to research a bit to be able to make a decent response on the Teams you talk about which are an awful lot. You have a lot of knowledge about them. How did you get to know about my Hometown Football Team then? That is really interesting I would have thought the interest would have gone as far as People in Great Britain although my youngest follows their progress every Week from the Computer here. I live in Spain in the North have been here a long time now I live as an ordinary Person because I am married here to a Spaniard so I am almost part of all this but I am still very British in some aspects. Thanks for knowing about my Hometown Team that is an honour for it to be known in other parts of the World. xxx

While the neutrals will prefer APOEL to pull off another surprise result, Real Madrid prove too strong for the first timer. Regardless of the result, APOEL should be proud of their feat. Hopefully, they will have another similar run come next season.

i think APOEL must improve their defensive area.. they maybe had no chance for qualifying in the semifinal phase but they make keep their pride not get many goal in santiago bernebau.. madrid always get difficult when get a fast counter attack

APOEL has done well, but a mistake in the defense was enough for Real to break the deadlock and after that it was an easy task to make everything clear. I was speculating on a surprise here, based on the fact that this was the most important game for the Apoel players and I was thinking that the Real players would have underestimated Apoel. Real hasn't played convincingly, but they have managed to solve the qualification in Cyprus and the second leg will be only a formality for them.

one mistake was done, it means disaster will comes to you.. Let CR7 will make a good combination with Kaka, ozil, benzema/higuain, just only wait a time for getting much goal from them.. thats why pep is easily for stopping the madrid tactic.. he know that the key of madrid is only in Ozil as playmaker, CR7 as finisher and Benzema or Higuain as the second finisher...

It is not easy to stop Real Madrid, but certainly Barcelona has the quality of doing this. I also hope and believe that Bayern will be able to do so and knock Real out. Real has many quality players, but they can be beaten, even in two legged encounter. I think the only team in the world which is impossible to be knocked out in normal conditions in two legged encounter is Barcelona.

I think it was enough . Until the last 20 minutes the standing was 1-0 Madrid and that alone is a big result for Apoel - they are really the surprise of the champions league this year - thumbs up !!

Its hard not to focus ahead of you when the stress starts to pile on, Which is usually a downfall for most teams, they focus too much on their future games, and lose track of what has to be done in their present games. It’s up to the coaches to get their minds back on track and prepare for what lies directly in front of them, not what lies down the road.
