Dear friends
Petrol prices getting hiked every month these days ,I have noticed that people are willingly adding CNG cylinder kits to their car to save petrol.....
But I am trying to know how safe is it and how good is it for the health of our cars ......?
What is your opinion about this is it safe and economic to add CNG kit to your car.........

Natural gas is a less complex and lighter hydrocarbon. The pollution is going to be less. I have also heard that the oil in your car doesn't get dirty. The bad news I heard was that the car engines don't last as long. Gasoline is a nastier fuel but somehow coats the cylinder walls thereby making the engine last longer.
Since natural gas is not a liquid, the storage tanks will have to be large with high pressure in order to get any real distance. Still this can be worker out. Finally, acceleration will be less. Won't quite have as much pick up and go. Still with the gasoline being so high and the natural coming down, the cost savings are going to be really good.

I don't know if it is good for the health of a car -- I doubt --, but it is not good for the health of a human : motors equipped with CNG kits are generating a lot more pollution. Quite all of these kits have disappeared from USA and Europe since about 15 years because they cannot satisfy the pollution standards and cannot be officially recognized.

strange I m shocked to read your reply .......
But In India CNG is called clean and green fuel and our government busy in converting all the vehicles from government sector to CNG ......
Even most car companies are now manufacturing car with prefitted CNG kits and in India CNG kit addition has become craze ......
People are debating to stop use of petrol and use CNG as vehicle fuel because CNG cause much less pollution that petrol....
Are you sure CNG causes more pollution than Petrol

CNG causes less pollution when a car is manufactured and sold with CNG only, but a gas motor converted with a CNG kit to use bifuel is generally causing more pollution than the maximum standards authorized in western countries, although a few models are authorized, but it is not really interesting and very marginal -- 120000 cars only equipped in USA --.

Dear friend,
I feel it is economic as the you noted the price of petrol is increasing. But on safety and health side I doubt it is would be not the same as petrol. But I do not know if this is the better one then why majority of vechiles are not using it here in Kerala in South India. I doubt there is something that not favourable for the motor makers to use this, as it is not seen much common.

If properly installed the CNG kit does not interfere with the performance of your vehicle. The prices of compressed natural gas are significantly lower than those of gasoline making it economically efficient to install a CNG conversion kit. The down side of CNG is that its filling stations are not as many as the gasoline stations but one can easily switch back to gasoline by the flick of a button.
