Wish there was an economical no salt added tomato sauce

A local store frequently has 8 oz cans of regular tomato sauce on sale for $0.25 a can. I have gotten to where I eat two cans a week mixed in with the green beans that I have at lunch. But now my blood pressure is a little high and I would like to reduce the amount of salt I have. Unfortunately the no salt added tomato sauce on sale costs about 4 times what the sale price of the regular is. Since I am always careful about my spending, it is hard to justify paying so much. Yet, tomato sauce is supposed to be very good for other heath reasons and I have gotten to where I really like it with my green beans. I wish I could find the no salt added cheaper.

Well, the only other solution I have to that is perhaps finding a way to make and can your own tomato sauce. There are ways you can leave out the salt if you wish. It might take some getting use to and you have to wash and boil the cans properly I am told. I know what you mean about prices like that. We are supposed to eat healthier but why is the healthy food always so expensive? Its a no win situation for those of us who have to budget ourselves. By the way I have never thought of eating green beans with tomato sauce, where did you get that idea? It sounds like something I would try but am so used to eating them plain now anyways and my blood pressure is fine. Can you not eat them plain without the tomato sauce too?

I was using tomato sauce in something else because it is supposed to be very healthy for many reasons and in particular for us men. But it was something that had to be baked and I got tired of doing that and started making the thing without baking it and without the sauce. So since I was having canned green beans at lunch anyway, I thought up trying putting in the tomato sauce as a way to get the health benefits of the tomato sauce and discovered that I really liked the combination. Sorry, but I'm just not someone who will go to the trouble and time to can my own sauce even if it would be healthier. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

Why don't you make it yourself? Then you can make it without salt. It's really not that difficult. Or are tomatoes way more expensive as the tomato sauce?

Yes tomatoes are more expensive and there are other ingredients that would have to be included; the current case lot sale for regular tomato sauce is four 8 oz cans for $1.00. Also, I know me and I just wouldn't take the time and go to the trouble to do it.

I never noticed that the price was higher. I guess you should always keep on the lookout for coupons and sales.

Somehow they always think they have to charge more for leaving something out.
