You mean as in methods to start the internships or stuff you will need when it begins? All I can tell you is about my experience years ago, but in here: If its about what you need to begin the internships: you need a passport or visa, depending on where you are going, having grades (GPA) over the level asked by the place you are going (it changes depending on the place), taking some tests (again which ones depend on where you are going) and scoring over the minimum they ask. If you are going as an exchange student (which would mean they give you accommodations in which to live) you also have to do it through your school/university since they are the ones doing most of the planning, and they will give you the requirements. If you are using scholarships, you have to check with the giver, and sometimes take more tests or write some papers which they evaluate in order to fund your studying abroad. If you are planning to get one from the place where you are going, I recommend contacting them beforehand in order to check their requirements (they vary a lot between institutions). If you meant stuff you will need after starting, then knowing the language is the most important one. Although most classes for foreign students are in english, it sucks to be unable to speak with the people who will live around you. Also money besides the scholarships or the student loans, in case of emergencies or unexpected spending (these will be more usual than you think). If you aren't going through as an exchange student, I recommend checking for living places before committing, which would include how easy it would be to move around, how much does it costs, any benefits or allowances for students (in here you get a discount for services like water or electricity, where I studied i got them for free), how peaceful it is during the night (ask the neighbors if you can), availability of places to wash your clothes and of course, if it receives delivery from different food places (I ordered out a lot even though I can cook, since I was always in a hurry or too tired :p). Also check if the university where you are going have dorms (foreign people have priority in getting those) and if they have book trading (college books are expensive as hell). And I guess that's about it. I hope that if you do it you enjoy it, and get to experience a lot of new stuff :).
