Do You Feed Water To Birds And Animals?

India

The scorching summers have set in and the temperature has risen as high as 40 degree C. The temperature is expected to rise even higher. In such hot and harsh summers may be we can skip one day's meals, but it is impossible to pass a day without drinking water (in our case other cold beverages also). The same happens with animals and birds also. They also cannot stand thirst. As an act of humanity we should keep a bowl of clean and fresh water and a bowl of grains in the balcony for the birds. My family has been doing this for the past several years. Have you also been doing this or are planning to begin with it this summer?

Hi! You have a very valid point to make. Birds etc. just can drinking water, as we could get easily. It is a noble idea to provide water to birds and your family and you are kind towards birds, which is appreciable. They (read birds) depend on natural resources to cope up with their requirement of drinking water. I also keep a bowl full of water near my cluster of potted plants in summer so that birds could at least drink water and could survive from the scorching heat.

Hello friend, Thanks for your appreciation! I must say you are also doing a very kind act. Well, the natural water resources get boiled during the daytime with the sun's scorching heat. The water bowls we keep in our house are kept in shade and we take care to keep them clean so that the birds get fresh and clean water to drink.

Bird bath for birds in our garden - Birds need fruits, greenery and water. They have it all in our garden.
My garden is designed solely with birds in mind. I have several fruit trees and a lot of greenery which these birds enjoy. I have installed a bird bath where several species of birds enjoy a swim and drink from there. Attached is a picture of the bird bath.

Dear friend, Your effort is incredible. Have seen the picture attached to the response. It's beautiful! I wish someday I also can have a garden designed especially for birds.

We gave up our life in the Metro just so that we can be closer to nature. You will have to do give up city life and shift to a rural or semi rural area where you can have your dream garden. My best wishes are with you.

I belong to a small town of Rajasthan. Life here is not very fast. I only need to be physically fit to have my dream garden and look after its works all on my own.

Hi inderjeet... I appreciate your family including you wholeheartedly. A kind heartened family only can do that. I applaud it. Nice work. Here, scarcity of water is not so much that we should keep some water pots for birds as they can drink water everywhere as it is not city too. But my parents manage water and grain for our cow each and everyday. have a nice time.

Hello Shibham, Thanks for your appreciation and I can hear your applaud even this far. I must say your family is also doing a very kind work indeed. I agree that birds can find water everywhere especially if there is no scarcity, but then may be that water is not pure and clean. Whereas the pots or bowls in which we keep water is washed everyday and is filled with clean and fresh water.

Absolutely right. Birds cannot get water everywhere and I feel better knowing they don't have to hunt for it on a scorching hot day. I think everyone can spare a few lousy glasses a day.

Oh, that's great! But I would like to know why don't you keep water for them? Water is essential during summers not only for human beings but also for animals and birds.

hello, yes we give water and food to the birds nearby our house, (mostly crows and sparrows ) are seen here, everyday, we keep a plate of food and some water , near our plants, the birds come, eat and drink when ever they feel hungry or thirsty, its so good feeling when they come and enjoy their food , i even has taken some pictures this summer when they bath in the water, now the crows and sparrows became so friendly , that even when we pass near by them, when they have food, they are not at all afraid of us...

Oh wow! Good to know this that you too feed birds with food and water. It's true that once the birds and animals become familiar with us and realize that we will not hurt them, they become friendly and do not fear us, which is good. Do upload the pics here. We would love to see it.

Yes, I do feed birds and animals especially now that the weather is getting hot. We have dogs, ducks and chicken in our house. We place a basin for our pets so that they have some water to drink. They really need it for they becomes thirsty too.

Undoubtedly, it is our duty to take care of our pet and domestic animals. I am sure you take care that the water placed for the pets is in shade, so that it doesn't get hot.

In this place people keep a large bowl with water in their terrace for birds and put grains too near to this bowl. I am not doing this because I am living in rented flat, in the second floor. I have not seen any bird near to our present home. Otherwise I love to feed birds and animals. In city life we have many limitations.

Yeah, that's true! There are certain limitations in the rented flats. Well, if you are not restricted by the society rules from feeding birds, and you love to feed birds then you should place water and grain in small separate bowls in your balcony. I am sure they'll fly to your home once they see that you have placed food and water for them.

Honestly speaking it feels so good to feed birds and animals. Yes, summers are too hot this time and we need to take extra care of ourselves and make sure that our pet and domestic animals and the birds we feed regularly are kept in good condition.
