Do you know anyone that has misspelled there child's name on the birth certificate? Personally I do not know anyone that has done this. When I was having my daughter I filled our her birth certificate before I delivered her. Since I was bring induced I got to fill all the stuff out before they gave me the stuff to start labor. So I remember how to spell my daughter's name just left out certain things that the doctor would fill in. I can only see a women misspell there kid's name unless they where really high on something or was in that much pain at the time of doing the paper work. I don't think a father would forgot to spell his kid's name unless he didn't know how to spell it and him and the mother never talked about it before. I also think some people misspell it just to make it more interesting or unique to that child.

Both of my parents were born in very small villages a long time ago. My father would have been 94 if he had been alive and my mother is 87. As they were not Spanish names, my father´s names were spelled in different ways depending on the knowledge of the person in charge. My mother´s last name was also misspelled so that her lasr name was different from that of her father and sister. This is a problem in my country as names are part of our identification for legacies and other legal papers.

I´m talking about a time when there were no computers and in many small towns people did not know how to write lastnames from people from other countries. Those people did not speak enough Spanish either so as to explain. My grandfather´s last name on my mother´s side was a croatian. They have an accent that makes the letter c sound like our ch. So the person did whay he could then. Now it´s easier. We have fingerprints besides our names.

Computer didn't come out till I was a toddler in the 80's the good old days when I didn't have to worry about things. Now and days we have computers but papers work is done old school first then typed up the same with marriage certificates you do little signed paper the day of it when you get married and then several weeks later you get the offical one in the male typed up and signed by a judge. When born in the US they still do foot brings and hand and finger prints of babies but they aren't put in the computer just filled away some where to never been seen again beside the nice one they give to parents that some hospitals do now.

All countries that is a problem when your name doesn't make your other ids and stuff. That is why here now that is in the US they make parents sign the forms before child is born and look at them after wards. Normally when they put them in the computer they are correct when they send you things but it can be wrong. This is why its important to double check. I've had the hospital try to spell my name age and birth date wrong. When it was clear writen out that women just couldn't type with out looking.

Both my father and my uncle's names are mispelled on their birth certificates. In both cases, it was the doctor's fault. They were delivered by the same doctor, and evidently he wasn't a very bright man, as he misspelled their names. Or maybe he was just a mean spirited man. There are mean spirited people in this world.

Good thing these days they let the parents do that. When I had my daughter I had to fill out the paper work before I was in labor I was being induce so I had the time to fill it out before they got the juices going to get me contracting. So I filled out my daughters name and stuff that was need for her birth certificate and then they send it off to an office some where and they type up what they see on the paper.

It's a lot less these days. some times it happens but it's still a pain to fix since you do have to go to court to do so.

Yes, hopefully these mistakes aren't as prevalent today.

Yes, I dated a boy freshman year who's name was misspelled on his birth certificate. His name was supposed to be William Thomas, but a typo makes his name legally "William Tahomas." To me it is ridiculous that he or his parents would have to pay for a legal name change to get that fixed.

Well was it his parents fault or someone else fault. Yeah you do have to get someone to help you change it when for another reason outside of marriage. I haven't had a problem with that I spelled my daughters name right and thankfully the office that did, didn't mess up and if they did I would be mad at them for not double checking with the signed document that we gave me.

Well my middle name at birth (as it's now my maiden name) is the same as my mother's, however it is spelled differently. My dad filled out the certificate and he didn't spell it with an E at the end like my mom's is spelled. I don't know how much they talked about it to be honest, I know my dad got to name me since I am his only child and my mom named my brother and sister.

Well the middle name doesn't really count as your name. Not like people really use there middle names these days. We talked about how to spell our daughters name first and middle and the same with our second child we know how to spell and the nickname as well as the middle name. I would be upset or anything if the middle name was spelled different from what I wanted. Its and easy change that can be made if need when you have a baby but and adult its a pain to change. I guess both sets of parents should know how they like it and work it out or agree with it.

Well I was born in 87, and growing up a lot of the times people used their middle name instead of their first to go by. I am not sure how easy it is to change the middle name or name at all for when the child is first born but I would imagine it's easy as you said. I know for a woman who gives birth to a child whose father is an immigrant, they can't take the last name (illegal that is) of the father. My friend had to hypenate her daughters last name to get her hubs name in there too.

since i started to learn to write & talk,my parents taught me my real name is this & it's the same in my birth record. But when I took a copy from statistics office,my name was not complete & when i ask the office of civil register, they said its typo error and they cannot do anything about it but i can change it by going to a lawyer and need to pay lots and the fact that it is not our fault but theirs.so i guess its not my mom not my parents fault but the person who typed it

The question was about birth certificate not civil documents and the question was about the parents. There are parent that do misspell there children's name but not by choice but accident it happens. So the answer to your question is the same as mine you don't know anyone that has accidentally themselves misspelled there names. The question wasn't towards anyone else error.

Well then you should have said that you said birth record birth records just mean you medical history here in the US they are records since they are hidden. All parents get there child's birth certificate at birth and the official one in the mail same when you get married. It's easy to get them change when you see them right way, then you don't have to pay for them or anything since it does have to get past several people. Typing errors happen but still that wasn't the question the question was on the parents not the person that filed the certificate. Your parents would have none years ago that it was wrong because at least here they wouldn't give you a copy that has the correct one and they have the wrong one impossible to do now and day's in this time period unlike after the 80's do they have mistakes like that. My daughters is correct all the way through no errors on my part or the office. All those they did lose our daughter social security card when it got sent to us. I hope it doesn't happen again with our second child. Taking a drive and waiting in the social supercity building can take hours some times and they don't take Birth certificates as evidences of your child being your child and that its there name. You have there shot records. So stupid I think because almost anyone can get medical records if they work at a doctors office.

It could be the parent's fault or it could be somebody else like the one typing it. The important thing to do is to check the documents before it will be offcially filed. My brother's middle name was type in a wrong way. We have 2 words for it and it should be written in capital letter at start. But the second word was written in small caps, my parents had to hire a lawyer to fix it and pay money to change it. And I assure you it is does not come cheap .

No the question was the parent they don't type the kids name in till after birth and its on the hands and legs when they bring your baby to you at the hospital and they show it to you two before placing it on the baby so you can see if its correct or not. The same that is on your child at birth is the one that they use for the real on that is sent to you or you pick up weeks later after birth. Its only written in by the mother or the father no one else fault but the parents. Its easier to change a child name then an adults name. Now and days the are every good about not making mistakes at the social offices and stuff when it comes to name. My daughter's name was came out correct first and middle name. So I'm sure my second child will be the same since its all done at the hospital at the time of labor or after. Its best to fill it out before hand.

Ahh ok. well, I do not have a personal experience yet but I will keep that in mind. And that was what my mother told me about my little bro's middle name. I also think the process differs in many places. And it is true, it is much easier to fix it when the child is still young than when he/she becomes adult.

I don't know anyone who has their name misspelled in their birth certificate, but my niece had her gender registered wrong. Whoever handled the registration of her brith certificate seemed not to notice that she was listed as a male and not a female. It is a sad story because at the time of her birth, her parents split up and it was the aunts of the mom who took care of all of these things and we just learned about it when my niece applied for a passport. We had to spend on the correction, but thankfully it was corrected and now my niece lives in US with her dad.

In our place hospital authority is registering the birth once the delivery takes place, by informing the Corporation. They won’t write any name in the column but just write ‘baby’ and specify the gender of the baby, date of birth, time of birth etc. According to our custom, naming ceremony is on the 27th day or 29th day after the birth of the baby. So we apply a certificate after the naming ceremony. The Corporation will send a birth certificate without mentioning the name of the bay through post. If we want mention the baby’s name in the certificate we can give an application along with this certificate and they will issue a fresh one with all the details. We must be careful on writing the spelling while filling the form as the birth certificate is very important in the whole life of the baby. I know somebody’s son’s spelling of name wrongly entered in the birth certificate, now they are using the same spelling in his school certificate and everywhere. It is a mistake but it is really difficult to change the name in birth certificate so they are keeping the same name what entered in the Birth certificate.

Well here it just takes money and time to change a name something no parent wants to go through but If my kids name was messed up and not on my behave I would go get it changed and even if it was my own fault or husbands fault we would change to the right one no matter what the coast of it was or is. We don't have a name thing some people do it in the US but its not part of US culture but US culture is mixed big time these days. Here at the hospital if you know the gender of your child then you fill out the forms and if they are wrong they will bring you a new one after the baby is born. Several times before you leave the have you sign papers making sure what you did before hand is still correct because they don't send the paper work out till after you leave and especially if its over the weekend mail doesn't go out any ways.

maybe your observation is right that if the hospital asked the mother to fill up the information of her child she could do it wrong if she isn't in her right state of mind due to the pain or medication that she was given. it could also be that they want the name to be unique. me and my husband got the chance to name one of our nieces. since his family has a chinese blood we opted to give her second name Mei instead of Mae/May which is the normal spelling in our country. her name became Elisha Mei and it turns out suiting for her since she's so white and chinky eyed, very pretty.

That is cool. But the question was if you knew someone that accidently missed spelled there kids name not meaning to spell it different to make there names one of a kind kind of thing. That was nice that you where able to help pick the name someone in your family. that is every special.

What you been in labor before? Hostally you will do and say what ever when there is a baby coming out of you and dads are just as scared and forgetting all of the time. I it is possible for a parent to do but its more likely to be and error on the person typing it in to the computer to make the hard copy of the birth certification then the parents. This is why they normally don't let you fill the forms out when your physically in labor they wait till after or before you in serious labor and pain.
