Friends... Can you enlighten me on this one? Is addiction all in the mind? Take for instance, for probibited drugs... does it have something to do with the taste? For coffees, does it have something to do with the aroma? For s#x, does it have something to do with the hormones?? Or, is it just all in the mind???

Hello Graceekwenx, Lovely question I must say, Well, i believe that addiction or whatever happens with us is all controlled by our minds. Now, the question is do you control your mind or the mind controls you. You will be the king if its the former and a beggar in the latter's case. Decision is all yours. Regards, Prerrna

I think all addiction is in the mind and if a person has good will power they can break any addiction but it is always going to be a tough battle.

Addiction has to do with both body and mind. The act of not being able to restrain oneself form whatever the addiction indicates mental weakness and lack of resolve, both a function of the brain and thinking process. The misery of the body, commonly called the withdrawal symptoms, is due to the chemical stimulation the body doesn't get at the time of de-addiction, a purely bodily reaction. Here the term "Mind over matter (body)" is very valid. If one is mentally tough with an unflinching resolve, one trains the thought process to understand the bodily misery and come to terms with it, knowing that it is very temporary. This way de-addiction is bound to be more lasting.

I think for all those substances that you have mentioned, they do have some content that are addictives and therefore, if people are addicted to these substances, it is different from addicted to TV.

Addiction is not a mind-boggling condition, i guess. The blood stream if contaminated with such chemical to cause imbalance in your system which tend to stimulate sensation and create an irresistible urge to do have something or do something.

well that is a very tough question to answer. I guess its the combination of both. We get addicted to something because of the effect it brings to us. And it can also be brought by things that we do not understand. I hope I make sense.
