Do you ever make home made popcorn? I just did for fun earlier this afternoon. By home made, I mean you pop your own kernels. We have this pot type thing that we can cook them in. Except for I almost set off the fire alarm, but besides that, it turned out alright.
My only complaint is that every time I make it, it is somewhat boring. It just kind of tastes like air (the popcorn) and oil (what I cooked it in). I add margarine & salt sometimes, like I did today, but for some reason the butter makes it all soggy.
I am just wondering if there is any way you can think of to spice things up when it comes to home made popcorn? Certain spices or flavorings that could make it more interesting/flavorful without making it TOO many more calories/too much worse for you?
Ideas appreciated!

I'm on a diet, I shouldn't even be THINKING about popcorn!! But since you asked...I think maybe sprinkling some cinnamon on popcorn might taste good, maybe mix the cinnamon with just a little bit of sugar and THEN sprinkle it on. Or perhaps maybe just a touch of seasoned salt, if you're in the mood for something savory.
To keep the popcorn from becoming soggy when you butter it, instead of POURING the butter on it, you could buy one of those cheap little plastic spray bottles and SPRAY your popcorn with butter.
I asked my teenaged son about what to pour on popcorn, he said CHOCOLATE!!

I actually like just plain old popcorn. I miss popping it on the stove in a pan like i used to when I was a kid. I pop it in the microwave but not store packaged. I buy the plain kernels. Then I put about 1/3 cup in a brown sack and staple it shut. I use the microwave though because it's easy. I do not need anything on it.. that only adds calories, although sometimes I do put some salt on it.

Hello maezee. I haven't had popcorn for a long tine now. I had a simple cheap black pan that I made a lot of popcorn in. I would cover the bottom of the pot with Orville Ridenbacher popcorn oil, then cover the bottom with popcorn and let it pop. I salted it with popcorn salt too. Popcorn salt is finer than tale salt and sticks to the popcorn better. I like to put some pepper on my popcorn sometimes. You could put taco seasoning on your popcorn if you like tacos.

After the corn is popped, use a flavored spray oil, I like butter or garilc and make sure you use a lot of salt. It's the smell I like best, in fact I can smell it right now. Thanks

I only make home made popcorn. Salt is a must, but I always add some butter. Unfortunatly I´d like to add a lot more butter than I should. I haven´t found the butter makes popcorn soggy and I don´t like the taste of margarine. I´ll ask my grandsons how do they do it: they are experts

I got one of those electric air popper machines which does a good job popping, but I'm always open to tips or ideas for toppings..I'd use butter and a drizzle of maple syrup sometimes in the bowl..

Well the usual cheese and barbecue is a given but if you want to be adventurous, you can try caramel which is hard to do if you are not making those microwave popcorns.
I think you should need a new container for your "popped" popcorn to add the flavorings and not just add your flavorings straight to the pot you have cooked them.
