Is the Civil Service Commission Exam only available for the Philippines or internationally? This summer, i am planning to take the exam for the Sub Professinal category so that as early as now, i have now eligibility to work to government agencies. For the information of others, this examination is needed for those who wants to work in government agencies. By the way, it is not plan really to work permanently to the government because of my course which i am taking now. However, i can still appy for government positions which requires even just a simple knowledge from my course. Does anyone here knows the coverage of the exam so that i will be prepared in taking it?

@erjnsimon, I took the sub-professional examination sometime 1987-1988. As I remember it now, it was similar to the National College Entrance Examination (NCEE). The exam has categories on Mathematical Ability, Language and Vocabulary proficiency, abstract reasoning and a little on general information about the Philippines. Today, there could be modifications on these categories, I just don't know precisely what. You may want to check out review materials at the National Bookstore. As it is, civil service examination is given in the Philippines. Other states or countries may also be administering other state examination only with a different name. Tip, if you want to exempt yourself from taking the professional civil service examination, try graduating from college with honor. Good luck!

In my own opinion, even other countries also have this kind of examination in order for them to be qualified to enter public service. They may vary in form and content. If this is your first time to take the examination, This is a general knowledge type of examination. I would suggest that you study more on current events, grammar, word meaning, analogy, basic math and abstract reasoning. I have taken this exam last 2000 so I already forgot it. Yes, this is really necessary when you want to work with the government.

Most countries require one to sit for civil service examinations for placement in the government. These exams are given with regard to ones level of education and qualifications. The government employs a lot of people meaning there are many people at any one time taking these exams. This makes the exams very competitive seeing as most of the graduates usually fall back to government jobs for security and the pension.
