Are boy bands back? That's what first came into my head when I heard this song from One Direction - a new British boy band that is recently raking in album sales ever since they won third place in the seventh version of The X-Factor. The melody has a 90's feel to it. Actually, when I first heard it, I thought it was an old song. I was surprised to learn that its actually a new song. I thought for once that it was sang by one of the boy bands which got famous in the 90's. I'm a 90's baby, by the way, which is why I am quite familiar with the "boy band" sound. One Direction is composed of members Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Stiles, and Louis Tomlinson. They initially applied as solo candidates but failed to qualify so they joined as a band upon the suggestion of X Factor guest judge Nicole Scherzinger. Their debut single, "What Makes You Beautiful" was released in September 2011 and peaked at number one in the UK and charted in the top ten in several international markets. This song also won the Best British Single Award at the 2012 Brit Awards. Below is an excerpt from the lyrics of the song.
