My husband got sick in December with an upper respiratory viral/bacteria infection. He has been sick since then. But 3 weeks ago he went into the hospital with liver failure. What caused it? Well, I thought they would say it was the wine he used for mouthwash. Hard to believe but he wasn't drinking near as much as you would think since he was going through a gallon of cheap wine a day using it primarily for mouthwash. The reason his throat was sore and the drainage was making him sick. He used wine because regular mouth wash is too expensive used as much as he was. But the primary reason for the liver failure was determined to be acetaminophen which he took as prescribed. The blood tests didn't indicate the wine was the problem. He spent a week in ICU and several days in addition in the hospital. They treated the sore throat issue separately so neither mouthwash nor wine is necessary. But now, he has a problem with taking any pain medication. His recovery will take many months. Have any of you had experience with liver failure? What was the cause?
