Why Do I Do It?

I keep checking what's on offer for free at the cross-stitch-club.com site even though it's mostly very simple or very grotesque (sometimes both). Occasionally, there's something that I think, "Oh, that's not too bad... maybe if I did a bit of blending on it, it might be nice" so I download it, but have yet to do any of those.
According to their site, their No.1 downloaded pattern is of a cat by a stream. The cat is quite lovely, but the background is only outlined in xxx. (A lot of them are like that.) Do any of you use that site? Have you done any of their patterns?

I do not use this site, but i think I know what you mean.
I crochet and have tons of symbol pattern magazines here at home.
I look online, however, to try to find something new and interesting.
Mostly everything online is the crappiest looking doily, runner etc...there is no way I would make it.
the same thing goes with knitting patterns. I never seem to be able to find nice patterns online.
Frustrates me.

I have the same problem with Jewelry stuff. A lot of it are things that not to be mean, but look ugly. Some are things that I would make for numerous different reasons. I guess no matter the craft online patterns seem to never be what we are looking for and it is frustrating.

There are other cross-stitch sites that offer quite lovely patterns, and I do go to them, but this one (btw, it should read "cross-stitchers-club")... this one, I constantly think, "Why would anyone want to do that?" And yet, every few days, I go back and check it out. Guess it's like looking at a car wreck.
As for knitting...

Good Morning Barb!
I don't think I have used this site you are talking about. But promise to go there and see in a bit.
I will check everything out and let you know.
I had a break from cross stitching to get that blanket done that I was knitting with the size of chop sticks so Saturday and yesterday I got to stitch a bit.
I missed doing it and this weekend will be mine and I am going to cross stitch and watch lifetime movies and eat bonbons LOL Well don't know about the bon bons but the rest sounds good LOL
I will at least make some peanut butter cookies and maybe something else to snack on.

I mistyped the addy... left out "ers"
They offer five free patterns a day, but as I said, most are awful.
Maybe if you used your knitting needles as chopsticks you could eat the bonbons without worrying about mucking up your hands?

This is interesting... My comment has been edited to leave out mention of a free pattern for knitting a bikini...

I like to see cats in streams! But if it's an XXX stream then I am not sure that I am old enough. You have interesting water courses in Canada. No, I've never used that site and as you know full well I have no idea what I am writing about. Just pleased to be alive and say "hello". X

It seems that you were talking about stitchwork which isn't in my way.If I take it correctly,My wife knows a thing or two about it.However she can't play computer much less checking them. She usually does it according to a sort of book of pattern.

These patterns can be downloaded then printed out on paper.

Simple. You just want it too bad enough to admit to yourself that you really want to do it or you just want people to say for you to do it even if you really want to do it. And by the way, what do you mean by cat stream?

I have not done of such downloads but it seems to me that it another hoax website that is brought forward by a group of people who want to earn your money in a very mischievous manner. One download was enough for you to stop and realise they are not real.

I haven't been to the site, but from what you say it sounds like something that is helpful to beginners. Maybe they wanted to make it something simple for those who are just learning to cross-stitch or someone who cannot do the intricate designs. I would love to see some thing you have done. :) I always wanted to get interested in cross stitch, but I don't think I have the patience for it. I get frustrated very quickly.

If you go to http://webspace.webring.com/people/hb/barbaraprz/Needlework.html
or http://ca.groups.yahoo.com/group/CrazyAboutCrossStitch/photos/album/330648581/pic/list
you will see some of my stuff...
As for patience, I find it meditative and therefore gives me patience.
