Some of you will know that I am blogging my hand-written diaries and - currently, I'm typing up each diary entry from my 1998 page a day. 1988 was quite a momentous year for me as many of my friends were leaving the place I was working at. During April of that year I was toying with the idea of joining a temping agency and my mind wandered quite a lot whenever I was feeling a bit fed up with my job. Because of this many of my diary entries of that period were actually quite funny and I shall give you an example:- Sunday 24th April 1988 FISH'S BIRTHDAY. "The Main Man." My hero! Will have to see his band, Marillion, very soon because I'm having withdrawal symptoms! Had to be content with reading the exciting Sunday Press (yawn, yawn). I reckon they should have nude rock stars in the Sunday Mags each week, i.e. David Coverdale or John Sykes. Maybe even Bob Catley out of Magnum. He'd earn more money from posing nude than from touring the country for the past 5 years! Seriously though, there's just nowt worth reading about!" Haha! How old was I when I wrote that diary entry? 22..but only just!

How I remember 1988. Wow, those were the days. I wish it was the 80's all over again. I would love to relive those days the right way. I remember WhiteSnake and I also remember Tawny Kitaen from the videos. She was hot!!! I was like 26 years old then. I bet it felt weird to read those diary entries after all these years.

I've met John Sykes don't you know as his Mum lived in Bispham (which is in Blackpool) so I tried chatting him up in The Star whilst very drunk and he wasn't very..er..accommodating. That was in 1988. I know I've blogged it anyway!

Well, lots of rock stars might not be very accommodating. But those days were a blast without a doubt. I still feel the same way today. Even though I am older, I still love acting like the child I really am.

When did you form the good habit of keeping a diary? Now when you read them, they take your thought back to the days when you were at life's full flowering. The years have mellowed you , when you read them, you are likely to feel how innocent you were then. I have no idea who Fish,Marillion ,etc.are, but I guess they were with a rock band.In my youth,I persisted in keeping a diary for about ten years.Sometimes I take them out and read them, the past scenes are still in my recollection.

I had a 5 year diary as a Christmas present. The years covered 1978 - 1982 so I would've been at school most of the time. After that I would buy (either) a week to view diary or a page a day diary. I would say I've got (mostly) page a day diaries as they are small but have just enough lines on to say what I want to say. It also makes me carry on with my writing. I have never used "joined up writing" to write in my diary but it's such a change to physically write something down as opposed to typing all the time. Yes, Fish used to be lead singer of the rock band Marillion. Nowadays it's Steve Hogarth. Fish is a solo singer now.

I didn't use the standard diary for keeping diary, even a notebook sometimes.I think the "joined up writing" means cursive or running writing.Your neat writing in your diary shows that You took it seriously .

Yes, there would be many times in my life I would Love to be able to know what I was thinking, and what would be some of my thoughts now on all of them. I know I did keep journals there for a couple of yrs. Just not sure what might have ever happened to them, but I am sure most would not be interested at all. But is it not interesting how our lives change as we get older.

It is interesting, you're right. I'm struck by how headstrong I was back then. I wouldn't stand for any nonsense from anybody and I'd really stick up for someone if I thought they were being picked on at work. However, my confidence suffered a set-back when I moved into a flat (well, a number of flats actually) with a guy that was no good for me and I was no good for him. Took us 2 years to realise it and that relationship has defined who I am now, in many respects, for better or worse? I don't know..that's what I'm aiming to find out once I get onto blogging 1990-1992!

It must be funny looking back at your thought patterns from such a long time ago. The last thing I would have done at 22 was write a diary, but I wish I had as those days are just a distant blur right now. Back then I was drunk every day so I cannot remember too much in the way of details! I am reading Keith Richards autobiography at the moment called "Life". During the part of the book where the Rolling Stones are just forming, he has diary entries which makes the book all the more enjoyable I feel as sometimes I wonder about the memories of those old rockers when I read their autobiographies. Even he mentions that he is surprised by some of the entries as he does not remember feeling those feelings that he wrote down at the time. The years do seem to change our memories as they roll on. Keith actually lost the diary in the early to mid sixties and it was sold by collectors over the years until Keith bought it back recently. Can you imagine having to buy back your own diary? That's the price of fame I guess! On our recent travels in the USA we got the kids to keep a travel journal so that they would remember it better and be able to look back on it in future years. My daughter did well, but my son got that far behind that he is still trying to catch up and cannot remember anything!

And these days you have this site to get all your words out into, so you should have no excuses for not sleeping soundly now!

It's a habit with me, writing in my diary and it DOES help if I have something on my mind..writing down my thoughts releases the tension and I can sleep soundly at night..usually! Poor Keith having to buy back his diary. Glad he did though. I keep all my old diaries in a rucksack!

Sounds like a fantastic way of remembering the past and combining some blogging fun. Very interesting entry IMO. Very real sounding for the age you were then. I went through some of my old diaries a year or so a go. And was in total shock. I don't think I will blogging them anytime soon, but it was still nice to reread them.

I've actually just found my journals from 12-14... I was having so much fun reading them through... and to see that yes, I was so immature back then (when I was one of the most mature girls in the class). I was even drooling over some star whom I don't even remember now... not after googling him, either. I even kept track of the silliest classroom gossips...

Oh, I STILL have crushes on the likes of Bob Catley from Magnum but I'm realistic enough to know that I'll never sleep with him. Hahaha!

I always kind of guessed you were born in that 1966 in you name... Good grief! I was in either 8th or 9th grade that year! (depending on when it was in the year) and I was 12 most of that year and then turned 13!

Yes, 1966 was a great year to be born in and I'd already popped out when we won the World Cup for the first and only time. Obviously, I don't remember it though.

I bet you must giggles and get laugh with some of the posts you made. Look back at those entries or journals when we were young we will found it very funny and 'what's this' of thinking. Most of them were just unimportant things to write but they are all memories from the past~(^^)

Souds very upbeat. It's wonderful that you have these diaries to look back at. I did some journaling but never kept the books. Wish I had them now to see Joe different my life is now.

Believe me I won't be upbeat in 1990 as that's when I made the biggest mistake in my life at that time in living with a guy who - let's just say, wasn't a good choice. It will be interesting to see the contrast in mood!
