Beauty Pageants

Yesterday, the search for 2012 Bb. Pilipinas (Ms. Philippines), was aired on TV. 30 beautiful women did their stunts to impress the judges and the crowd to get the crown. There are 3 crowns to win on this pageant, and each of them will represent the Philippines in the international contests. I'm just happy that the judges now give a big plus on candidates with the real Filipina beauty, more than the half breeds. I always believed that the unique beauty of the Filipino women has a fighting chance in the international beauty pageants. This has been proven by the line of "morenas" (tanned Asian skin tone) winning a spot on the finalists and even the crown.

I have been trying to understand what a true Filipino woman really looked like and so I like looking at old photos. Most of the Filipino women back in 1930s or even in 1940s were barely 5' feet as they were very petite. I am disgusted watching Ms Universe pageants because almost everyone look the same. It seems the looks and features have also globalized. Even the body sizes are the same.

Apparently, its not easy to find a real Filipina beauty nowadays. We belong to the Malay race, but because there have been a lot of foreign influence in our country since hundreds of years ago, we see a lot of mixed-breed beauties all around.

I agree. A real Filipina beauty would most likely not pass international pageants because she would look very young and almost childlike for her age. I find that Filipinos look younger than their counterparts in other countries.

Not entirely. Of course there are height requirements in the national pageants, so the winners who would then represent the country in the bigger international contests would be competitive enough. For the last 2 years, Ms Philippines won 2nd runner up and 1st runner up. So, we're hoping that this year, it will be a three-peat.
