I have a 1 yr old pitbull, who is great. He is housetrained and very well behaved. My husband recently bought a new puppy for my daughter and my dog urinates on the puppy(female) every chance he gets. He has done this before to my brother's male dog. Should I get him neutered for him to stop this? He has not went potty in the house for almost 6 months and I don't know how much longer I can keep washing everything and bathing the puppy. I don't want to keep them seperate because I don't want any jealousy. Any ideas?

hi there,
i think this isn't normal, also maybe there is jealousy and insecurities? try to ask the veterinarian about this if you are planning to have him neutered.

Thank you. He is a dog that I rescued from an abusive owner about 7 months ago. He was only about 4 or 5 months old at the time. Maybe, it could be like you said, jealousy, because he has been the only "dog" pet we have had since I got him. But, he has also done this on my brother's dog at a dog park, and whom doesn't come to my house. Sometimes, I wish dogs could talk!! lol

A dog that urinates on other dogs is exhibiting dominant behavior. Sounds like your pit is marking or telling these other dogs that your home is HIS territory. Doesn't sound like it's related to housetraining because urinating to mark is a fairly small amount of urine whereas actually using the inside of the house as his potty would leave much bigger puddles. I've read that neutering can help with habitual marking of territory so it might be a good time to speak to your vet about him. Good luck!

Thanks, and I was thinking he was trying to show dominance. I was hoping we could lean away from neutering because I was hoping to breed him in the future. But, it sounds like that may be my only option at this point. Thanks.
