I resigned from work last Dec 2011, and I haven't started paying contributions as Voluntary member, since then. But, I have been contributing thru my employer for 5 years, now. I have questions related to maternity benefits, and im just hoping that there are mylotters who have the information I need. Apparently, people in SSS are not very helpful and always gives you an impression that they're busy and you need to get off their face. I tried searching for answers on their website, but I can't find it either. So, here goes my questions. - How much is the maternity benefit that I expect to get? or, how is it computed? - Do I get half of this before I give birth, like when I was employed, or do I get the lump sum after giving birth? - Where can we find the options on how much our monthly contributions should be as voluntary members? I would really appreciate any bits of information you can share, and perhaps there are other members who also needs help.

Well according to my office mate, if you were still employed when you got pregnant and your employer have notified SSS then you can avail of the maternity through your employer. But from what I understand you resigned in Dec. 2011 and never paid voluntary contribution which means you are an inactive member, you can never avail of any maternity benefits anymore since you stopped paying. If you have continued to pay as voluntary you might have gotten maternity benefits(although not very sure about this). The only catch here is you can only avail when you are an active paying member but once you stopped even 1 month then benefits also stops.

Oh, I hope not. Isn't it that once you're a member of SSS, you remain to be one. Ive been contributing since 2000, and i only applied for loan, once and paid it off. I hope they won't just crash me out of their list for just 6 months of idle state. I remembered our HR staff told me once that I can still claim for maternity benefits but there's a different process, that I didn't quite understand.

That's what happened to my wife. She resigned from work but she didn't availed of the voluntary membership either that's why she didn't received even an cent from SSS when she gave birth.

Being a member is not the question here but being an active paying member is a different thing. It is best that when you are paying and employed you get to avail of the benefits but when you stopped paying then your benefits stops as well. Even for one month of no contributions would tagged you as inactive already. Once you resume paying again then you can get to avail of the maternity benefits again but I think you have to pay them several months again before you can avail the benefits. Also if you would pay as voluntary member your maternity benefits would also go lower since they will base the maternity benefits on the equivalent salary bracket not on your past contributions.

I think try to go to the regional office near your area. December 2001 in not a long time. But you cannot pay any more for the previous months that lapsed. January to April. As a voluntary member. You need to pay your contributions on a quarterly basis. Which means that for the second quarter. You will only pay for the month of May and June 2012. Your maternity benefits will depend on how much contributions have you paid for the past years. You can view it on line if you have an account. Try to create an account on line for you to know how much. Visit www.sss.gov.ph. Look for online inquiry and look for maternity benefits. Hope I help you somehow.

Sadly, the only people who could help you with those computations would be the ones working for the company. Anyhow, I know they have a website, perhaps you'd mind reading through pages of those http://www.sss.gov.ph/

With regards to your questions, you can visit their website. Regarding the maternity benefit, I don't know how much you going to receive since you are on a voluntary contribution. It also depends on what type of delivery you will have. My wife, employed, has more benefits because she went to caesarian delivery which I think received 75 days of her daily salary. She get that after giving birth thru her employer. They are the one who processed it. But according to our employer, she can have cash advance, if really needed, and will be paid or deducted from the benefit that she will get. I have no idea for a voluntary contribution members. With regards to your voluntary contribution price, you can create an account in their website, log on and view all your stats there, including your contribution since you became a member. You can also verify there if your past employers are paying the right amount.
