Every seller has a reputation, and you can read the comments left by other members for any seller. Personally, I don't buy anything to a new member, but buying to an old ebayer is safe.

First of all, eBay is not exactly the seller of the items you can see on their website. They are just a flat form for buyers and sellers to transact. So, technically, you are not buying from them, rather, you are buying through them. The thing with these scammers is that they seems to be everywhere. While eBay has been in the business for quite a while now, they are not spared from the scammers plaguing the internet. So with this in mind, I suggest that yo take extra precaution in terms of transacting over the internet. Not just in eBay, but any buying and bidding site for that matter. eBay has this "feedback" thing wherein people are given an opportunity to leave comments and ratings (aptly called feedback and feedback scores) to everyone they have transacted with. While it can be a great way in figuring out whether or not to transact with a certain seller or buyer on the site, we should still take extra precaution. As far as I know, eBay has this protection program for their members. I think that is only possible if you use Paypal account with your transaction. Also, in the event that you get scammed by sellers/buyers on eBay, you can open a dispute and report your predicament. But then of course, the solution is based on the situation on whether you followed their rules in terms of transacting. As for me, I rely mainly on feedback of the seller before buying things from them. Luckily, I always have smooth transaction with the sellers. Also, trust your gut feel, most of the time, it's right. Good luck and have fun.

buying online always has its risks, in order to minimize risks, we just have to check the feedback of the seller and see if there is any negative comments regarding him/her. I think you can also report it to ebay if you didn't receive your purchase, I am just not sure what they do to the seller, maybe ban them or something.

I have bought hundreds of things on eBay and never had a problem. I do have a policy however of never buying anything from a seller with less than 92% good feedback, and I do read the listings carefully. If I am buying something really expensive, then I look for 97% and up good feedback. If the seller is new and does not have at least 20 or so transactions, then I do not buy either. Also, I only pay with PayPal. If the seller does not take PayPal, forget it!

I think it depends on the seller. Long time ago I bought stamps from a seller from Ebay. Before that, I checked his reputation and I found it was fine. However, I had never received my stamps. I did contact him and he replied that he sent me the stamps. This is a useless argument since I couldn't have any proof to it and so did he. Since he mailed it with normal post. However, I still doubted that he didn't send it. As I have received letters and parcels from my abroad friends and they are not lost at all. So why I just couldn't receive the stamps from this seller? It doesn't make a sense. This is why I will never buy from Ebay any more. I love China

Like others have said, check out the seller's feedback numbers but at some point, you have to take that leap of faith that not everyone on ebay is a scammer and there are way more serious sellers than scammers on ebay. Having said that, high feedback numbers are a good sign as are sellers that have been around on ebay for a long time.

Ive used ebay, and Ive not had serious issues of scammers in there. The best thing you can do is to check on other buyers reviews of a particular seller. They are being rated by their customers and that's the only way you can verify their credibility. I always refer to those reviews before I purchase items, regardless of price. ive tried purchasing from international sellers, too, and have not had any problems so far.
