Is Rama Sethu/Adam Bridge-built during the Ramayana?

I am a Hindu and I firmly believe that ShriRam Sethu was built by the army of Lord ShriRam in order to attack Ravana. Scientists have already proved that the bridge was man made and not natural.There is no evidence of any oceanic way between the two countries,India and ShriLanka.The only description of the construction of such a bridge is found in the Ramayan.How can we overrule such an evidence? The bridge should not be broken at any cost.It is our greatest cultural heritage we have inherited from the tallest personality of our history. [ I firmly believe that ShriRam was a historic character,not a myth.
