My partner and I watched “Walk the Line” the other day. The Johnny Cash film. I’ve seen it before, but to be honest I didn’t remember even half of it. And now, I think I’m obsessed with Johnny Cash and June Carter! Joaquin Phoenix played the part fantastically, and I was immensely surprised to learn that not only did he sing and record ALL the vocals, he also learnt to play the guitar just for the role! His portrayal was fantastic, especially considering I have seen video clips of Johnny Cash, and he even had the walk down perfect! I mean I know it’s the job of an actor or an actress to portray the person they are meant to be portraying, perfectly, but our body can physically only allows us to do so much, and he was fantastic! Reese Witherspoon was also fantastic as June Carter, and she sang and recorded all the vocals as well. To be quite honest with you, I loved her singing “Wildwood Flower” so much, that I downloaded the track and actually prefer it to June Carter’s original! I think it’s amazing when actors and actresses are able to showcase their other skills and talents, while still not deterring from the fact that they are fantastic actors, as actors being singers and vice versa is actually a pet peeve of mine!
