Did you have mannerisms and how did you get rid of them?

When I was a kid, I had really embarrassing mannerisms that only went away when I became a teenager. I twitch my eyes every few minutes, followed by twitching my nose. My mom always calls my attention when I do that so I'd be conscious about it. But, I just really can't control my mind and tell myself not to do it. It usually comes at certain time of the year, like around June to October, which is rainy season here in our place. So, i realized it must be the weather that caused it to happen, because I usually get colds and cough those times. I only got to control it when I became a teenager, and you know, at this stage, you get to be more conscious about your appearance and you get crushes and you don't want to embarrass yourself in front of the public. What mannerisms did you have in the past or present, and how are you coping with it?

hi there, i used to do that too, twitching my nose and my mom doesn't like it LOL, i do it on purpose because because i try to not touch my face when it is itchy since i don't wanna get any pimples from my dirty hands LOL but it is good when there is someone reminding so we can stop and control them.

Oh, that's a good one. At least you're aware of what you're doing and can choose not to, right.

How old were you when you stopped doing it? It really is embarrassing, especially when people stares at you with a puzzling look.

Golden Boy... - Yes, I was, but as an adolescent, I was a bit of a problem, bad at school, no great sportsman, and with a terrible twitching head!
Yes, when I was a child I had many twitches and habits, one after the other. I had a bad blinking habit at one point; then for a period, I used to blink first one eye then the other; I think I may have twitched my nose for a while too; but the worst habit I had was shaking my head. This one lasted a long time; several years through my adolescence; I'd shake my head from side to side as if I was saying no, and also i think up and down, as if I was saying yes. The twitching was constant; it really worried my parents, because they feared I'd never stop. However, as adoescence faded, and young manhood started to creep up on me, my twitching just stopped for no real reason; it just did. In fact, I turned into a strikingly good-looking young man, so went from a strange twitching boy, into a gorgeous adonis!

Yes, they were annoying, probably more to others though...hahaha! No, I never got dizzy shaking my head; I guess I got used to it...:) Yes, when I became a young man, a lot of things changed...I went from a scruffy funny youth to an elegant young man!

Good for you Carl. All those mannerisms must have been really annoying. Don't get get dizzy shaking your head that much? lol... I guess mannerisms just fade when we get more conscious with our appearance.

Oh I'm sure I had many embarrassing little quirks when I was a child. And many of them are something that I have rather forgotten, because of the simple fact that I don't really want to remember them to say the very least. Of course, a lot of them were just ones that slowly faded over time and something that I would find so annoying if I had talked to my younger self I might have punched myself in the face. One that comes to MIND is when I RANDOMLY raised and LOWERED my VOICE much like THIS. I have no idea why I did that, it seemed like some external voice was fiddling with my volume dial or something. Also there were a few nasty habits like using my hand to blow my nose. Which sounds utterly disgusting as an adult but as a child, we often do not have said considerations. But we grow up, we grow on and we get out of those things.

Well, forgetting bad memories always helps. Funny, I was trying to re-enact the lowering and raising of the voice while reading that line.

I have loads, but I'm trying to be conscious... sometimes, though, when I'm really nervous, I can't. Twisting hair, chewing nails, chewing pens/pencils, shaking legs... and the worst, which I can't really help... sometimes in the allergy season my throat starts itching, and I kind of start "scratching" with my tongue so that the itching can stop, and it sometimes makes popping sounds...
