tap tap tap...

At my job when I'm waiting on customers I get the occasional person who just has to tap tap tap their fingers, keys, pen ect while I'm doing their transaction. Now I can see doing this if it's was a long wait or something but usually I can get thru 2-3 people in under 5min. So really the wait isn't long wait unless there's a sanfu in the routine... and yet they tap. Drives me bonkers some days, I'd really like to ask them to stop.

I don't have many customers that do that to me. I do know what you mean as there are the occasional that do. What gets me is when they leave the register to get other things before telling me anything about what they want, like how they want it bagged (paper or plastic) and if they have their discount card.
Some leave before I even see them (they put their buggy in line and leave) and that irritates me as they seem to do it when it's a bit busy.

hi 3Snugglebunnies I was in Target and the man in back of me was doing that and I though, lool mr. the clerk is wo rking fast enough so why be so noisy and rude. Really usually the checkers there reqlly nove you through. I had to stop long enough to dig out
64 cents in change and there he was still tapping his foot. I felt
like turning around and saying
"okay lets dance " wonder what he would have said then.

I know how that feels, but I know that the reason those people do it is because they are impatient and they might also be nervous about something. Most of it is a nervous reaction. It is also hard to tell them to stop in case they might be someone who is an important customer. I wish there was something that could be done about people who do this, but there really isn't anything that can be done about them.

It is so rude of them to do this as I am sure that it doesn't make you work any faster. People who do that are without class or manners

Some people really have short attention spans and they feel like they have to do something to keep themselves entertained. I'm sure if we all watched ourselves when we were waiting, we would see ourselves doing things that might seem a bit annoying and slap ourselves in the face, telling us to stop. Things that we do not really realize what we are doing.
People just cannot keep their hands still a lot of time and some people think that things should be done faster than they can blink their eyes. Then again, there are just a lot of rather restless people out there and many of them tend to get rather restless easy out there. I would hate to see what would happen if they had to wait an hour or two for something like I had to in the past. That is something worth being impatient.

Could be worse. Yesterday I had some older guy tell me I shorted him. He cashed a check for $113 and he tells me I sent down $98. I knew I'd counted the money twice, and I haven't made a mistake before. I was certain I was right.. but of course there was a slight chance I could have been wrong because it was busy and I was in the drive thru by myself.
So, I told the guy to send the money back up and I'd fix it. Meanwhile I called my manager at the bank (our drive thru is at a seperate location) to ask what I should do about this problem.
I was almost certain the guy was going to pocket some cash and send up less than I'd actually given him..
So I'm on the phone with the manager when his canaster comes back up and I count the cash.. and there's $113 there, just like there's supposed to be. Bugged my manager for nothing.
So I tell the guy there's the right amount there, and he's adamant that that's not what I sent him the first time.
In the end instead of arguing I just apologized because I wasn't going to convince him that he counted it wrong. I sent the cash back down and thankfully that was the end of it.

Think of it this way. That person is releasing stress through their finger tips instead of their mouth. I can put up with the fingers.

HA! I think the same about people who do that - drives me nuts!! I don't know if they're aware that they do this. We had a meeting last weekend with our realtor and he kept doing that with his pen each time he was listening to us. We like our realtor - but it just bothered me that he was doing that!! You know what - we had a friend who did that with his nose . . . he'd situate his hand so it'd sort of be like a fist on his cheek . . . and he'd keep tapping the side of his nose with his pinky finger . . . is that strange?? At least that didn't make any noise - ha ha!!
