Proof reading is simple. Basically you have to check that your article reads properly, that each sentence makes sense and that you have used the correct grammar and not made any spelling mistakes. The one difficulty in proof reading is that when it's your own articles you're proofing, you can often miss obvious mistakes - so you really need to make sure you concentrate. If you've made arguments, ensure that your arguments have the correct premises and conclusions. If you've read something that you believe could be written so it has greater effect, then change it. Basically, it's like double checking your work before it gets released to the wider world. Last thing you want is a published piece of work with a heap load of silly typos in! Hope this helps :)

Well said eucalyptus, especially when you say one cannot proofread their own work, well you can but it's easy not to see the mistake as you wrote the statement. At that time a serious concentration is needed.

Thanks Eucalyptus and Nikhabele,
so basically proof-reading is reviewing your article once before submitting..i get it, as i was searching in the net, there were few software that would proof-read any article..any comment on that guys? is it good, or should i stick with the old style of reviewing it myself.

No computer software is as good as the human eye, although some softwares can aid you. I discourage you from relying on software alone though. Proof-reading isn't reading 'once' through your article, a good proof read will mean reading over it many times as you may not see something the first time, but will the second. If you want to be super sure, giving it to a friend or family member to proof read after you've tried - a fresh eye, so to speak.

Proofreading is simply rereading your article for corrections. There might several errors in what you submit so proofread your articles, correct errors before you submit.

Proof reading means Examining your text carefully to find and correct spelling errors and mistakes in grammar, style and spelling.
You can even do this as a job, proof reading for a company and getting paid.
