Every time I go to the supermarket some product has gone up. I'm wondering just how much a dollar is actually worth in real time. I tried finding out using Google but, all I find is exchange calculators which gives the current rate which is not the real buying power of the dollar. Just from my buying experience, I guesstimate that the buying power of a dollar is .25 cent factoring in taxes and inflation. So,what do you think our dollar buying power is worth?

I don't know....what I do know is that I am going to europe in a few months and the exchange rate is unbelievable.....it's going to cost twice as much to buy things as it did the last time I was there!

You got inflation to thank for that, when the dollar is strong you have about twice the buying power abroad. I remember when I went to Spain I got about twice what the dollar was worth. The dollar was so valuable then you had people on the street exchanging their currency for dollars. Anyway try to have a happy and prosperous trip.

It certainly seems to fluctuate a lot doesn't it? I don't even know what a dollar is worth anymore. But it certainly seems like it's worth less and less, doesn't it?

You are right the dollar fluctuate on the exchange market but it doesn't rise when it comes to buying power. I remember when Pres. Reagan was in office they said that the dollar was worth about .37 cent at that time, so you know that it is worth far less today.
