Couple with 56 dogs - now have a pet ban!!

April 21, 2012 3:04pm CST
A couple who had 69 animals (56 dopgs, 3 cats, 6 birds and 4 chinchillas) have been banned for 8 years from keeping pets. In the four bedroomed house it was overrun with a range of dogs including huskies, German shepherds, rottweilers and staffordshire bull terriers. When RSPCA raided the house they were swamped by a sea of dogs in the living room and too many to count in the back garden. Also they found one of the couple's five children (a nine month old baby) sleeping in cot with sheets soiled in bird droppings. The cats were living in the bathroom, the birds including love birds were in dirty cages. The couple thought of their home as an animal sanctuary. They admitted nine charges of animal cruelty, were given a two year conditional discharge and each ordered to pay £250 towards the RSPCA's prosecution costs. Stories like these really make me mad!! How can people afford to feed 56 dogs, its no wonder they get neglected as how can you walk them all and give them the attention they need??? Also what about the 5 children, how can they all live in a four bedroomed house?? Must have just been cramped with the family let alone all the extra pets. Whats your views on people who have too many pets??? Surely their must be a lw limit to the amount of pets you can have!! Can you imagine their vet bills, if they even took the animals to the vets!!

Wow where did this happen? It's mad how someone would even think to have so many pets. No wander the conditions the pets where in where rough a 4bedroom house with 56 digs. My friend has 3 dogs and they seem like a houseful and a handful.

Somerset in the UK!! Dont forget the 3 cats, birds, chinchillas and 5 kids too!!!! It is madness how they thought they could all live in a 4 bedroomed house! i agree 3 dogs can be a handful let alone 56, the noise from the dogs barking must have been awful for the neighbours!!

I think they have mental issues....I have seen several programs on tv with people who are animal hoarders...and their lifestyle is filthy! I feel sorry for the kids...and the animals living under conditions like that! I wonder if they actually check up on them to see if they have gotten any more?

they have issues of some kind!!! Yes I have seen adverts about animal hoarders as well, and the house is always filthy. Im not sure if they check up on people who have a animal ban but Im sure they will probably try and own pets again, maybe in a few years!!

Hi Cinderella, It makes me sad when I hear stories like this. I am surprised there were not more complaints before it got to the stage where they had 56 dogs, poor children to be living in those conditions too. They got away too lightly in my eyes and also social services should be involved to make sure the children are being looked after properly too. £250 costs are a joke it should have been thousands as it will take that to re home all these animals with them being looked after properly and with the correct immunisations and castration etc that the RSPCA make sure they have before going to a new home. huggles. Ellie :D

Well that's at least weird. Just thinking of all the "fuss" I have to get through to take care of my dog in under real caring conditions they should have like 10-15 people just to take care of their pets daily :P But I guess they looked at the whole story as a game, they probably just took all those animals and neglected them, just like their kids.

Sounds like hoarding to me! If it isn't it turned out that way becasue the dogs were not neutered or spary! Plus have 5 kids? This people are insane! How in the heck could they even afford half these animals and their kids! That is totally crazy! They can easily become this way again if th RSPCA doesn't follow up on them! I have seen cases like this on Animal Planet and many people go right back to to doing it even told not to! These people need to take care of themselves and their kids first! Sounds like most of the animals weren't and the way it sounds some or all of the kids were neglected! I hope the human welfare people look into this too! If their parentsbecome hoards again the children should be taken away! I get so sick and disgusted hearing thes stories, too!

This is just...well,it's...wrong.I can't find a better term to explain this.It makes me so mad that these people cramped all these innocent animals and probably thought that they were helping them when in fact they were cruel and doing it more for themselves than for the animals. If a person really wants to help animals the right thing to do would be to give a donation to a shelter or adopt pets from there but taking 69 animals in a four bedroom house is definitely NOT something a person in their right mind would do.As for their vet bills...I don't think they even took their pets to a vet-I mean they probably didn't even have the funds to feed them...

I agree with you totally....the house must have been mega cramped and then theres the 5 children and the couple themselves. The newspaper article didnt state the children's ages apart from one being 9 months old or what happened to them. It didnt say what state health wise the animals were in but since they admit charges of animal cruelty. Makes you wonder how they feed them as surely when you put one food bowl down, all the dogs would swarm round it!!??
