Last night I saw a TV documentary on wild life presented by a research team on wild life on “Nat. Geo. Wild”. The actual video done by the team involves one female Cheetah, 3 male cheetahs and one lion, the king of the forest. Three Chita’s were fighting within themselves to decide the right over one female which was scared to death hiding over a top of the tree almost 15 m. from the ground. A lion some distance apart was observing all these four fellow dwellers with equal interest. The female cheetah at the sight of all these four males was so scared that she jumps from the top of the tree and runs for her life. The three Chita’s follow her with equal speed and catch her in the bush. The lion follows them and enters the battlefield. The three cheetahs run away at the sight of the lion, who catches the female one and kills her not only by strangling, the way they usually kill their prey but by smashing her skull with his powerful teeth displaying the immense power they possess. The three cheetahs meanwhile were still fighting within themselves over a female who was being killed by an outsider some distance apart. The story was disturbing because it can be related in many ways to our civilized society. The females are still being victimized in our world today as is done in the wild.. We still fight within ourselves while the outsider take advantage of that and run away with our possessions. It would never have been possible for the invaders, either from Central Asia or Europe, to rule over our country India had it not been for the defectors within ourselves who helped the enemies against their own people. The fact must be true for every other country that has been ruled by the outsiders. Has anybody viewed this TV documentary? What are your views on this?

I agree that the documentary has similarities with human behavior. Women as the common victim of crime in many aspects. This situation exist before ancient time- and even in this modern era that recognizes women's right and freedom/equality- still women suffers the most.

Thank you jaiho. Despite calling ourselves civilized we human beings sometimes behave worse than the animals. We therefore here day in and day out the atrocities on weak and downtrodden by rich and powerful. The atrocities on women being some of them.

Cruel and nasty things can happen in the wild life of animals in the African bush. I went on safari when I was in my mid twenties. It was wonderful to see all the fantastic wildlife. Yes, indeed the lion is the king of the jungle. I believe this one acted with much cruelty to the female cheetah. She was shaking very frightened up a tree. I wish she had stayed there and waited until the lion walked away. She came down and the lion killed her so that was very sad. The story was highly disturbing indeed. In Kenya on the safari I saw a male and a female lion, a leopard asleep up a tree and no cheetahs.

Thank you maxima for your valuable contribution. The scene was really disturbing to see how cruel this wild life can be particularly to a helpless female. You may be right if she had continued on tree top she might have have been saved but she was so scared on very sight of these males she must have thought that she could run to safety. It is nice to hear that you visited African Safari. Despite being in Africa for seven years, I could not visit one. I have however seen a wild free tiger while travelling from Mumbai to Goa by a car. It is one thing to see a tiger in a zoo or a circus and another thing to see the same animal free in the wild environment. It was a life time experience for me.
