Jogging alone or in a group?

I was just discussing with other joggers after hitting 5 km road this morning. We acutally don't know one another but we finally had a conversation as we all stopped at a foodstall near the sports arena where many joggers, bikers, longboarders hang about after exercises. I asked a guy next to me about his workout routine. Does he do it on his own or with a group of friends. He said he did it on his own most of the time but on weekend he went on a bike in a group of friends heading into the jungle. Also today I noticed several groups of 3 or 4 walkers or joggers. They were talking while jogging. It seemed that jogging in a group can be much better a lot of fun as well. Friendships can be better made as they all have a lot in common. And probably if we exercise together it will be more motivating to be consistent with the training target. Your take my dear mylotters about it.

I prefer jogging alone but at the same time i like accompaniment. There are pros and cons to each of them. Jogging alone allows me to set my own pace, according to my momentum, enjoying the greenery around me. It can be quiet at times but that's what i need, inner peace. While running in a group can be fun, with friends around but it can be a form of distraction too. I'm alright if i'm slower than the rest but i hate it when people expect me to be as fast as them when they keep pushing me to go faster. Being a jogger, you should be able to understand it better right

Hi, where do you usually jog, in the park or along the street? I used to jog in Hyde Park, London when I was there. I really enjoyed jogging there.

You are right. It's more fun to do something in a group. I myself love meeting people and interacting with them. But there's nobody here i could jog with. However, when we bought our son's first longboard we met people who invited us to join them and they could teach our son. So we meet them every afternoon at a vacant subdivision with no cars to bother us. It's really good to meet people because they shared their ideas, we learned from them and we help each other. Now me and my hubby are thinking of giving a board to one of our group their who cannot afford one.

toniganzon, long time no see. Which do you prefer, jogging or longboarding? I am really looking forward to seeing you on a longboard. The profile picture will do.

Okay, toniganzon, I wish I could do longboarding, too. I think I've got to learn a few tricks. I may easily slip on it.

Longboard is more fun. The adrenaline rush it gives you is incomparable.

If you have a few friends who are around the same fitness levels as you, then running in a group really can be something that is positive for the whole lot of you. However, it can be disheartening if you are not as fit as them as that might mean that you are always left at the end of the group to catch up, and it can make you feel bad about yourself if you're not able to do this. I would love to have somebody who I could run with, as I get bored far too easily when I am out on my own, so I think that having somebody else who I could run with would be of great benefit to me.

You are right. The group members should at least be at the same fitness level. But to encourage the slowest, the others have to adjust their speed.

It is much better to jog with friends. Usually I jog with friends and other company- common friends. It is more fun than jogging alone and also play some outdoor games after the jog :)

I jog in a group once a week. I jog every day in the morning at 5:30. It's better that time since the air is still clean and fresh.

Like everything in our life, to do exercises alone or in a group have positive and negative points. I prefer to exercise by myself, because I keep my focus, I do it in my time and I don't have someone to take off my motivation. For example, when you start to jog with a friend, both are motivated. But after sometime, your friend call you and he says that he will fail a day. Probably you will fail that day too, because you will not go alone. Then he starts to fail more and more and when he stops, you stop too. That why I don't like to exercise with other person. For sure, when you do exercises in group you have a fun time, you can change experiences and learn some important things, and you can have a model to follow. Furthermore, some people can just start because other person call them to do an exercise and it is important too. Happy mylotting and good jog for you.

I guess the best way is to enjoy both--either joggin alone or with friends. I am used to joggin alone but if there are friends who want to join, that is okay too. Most of the time I go on my own.

First, thanks for the best response. I am really happy with it. For sure, it is important to be open to different options. As I said, there are positive and negative points in each situation. The important is to do some exercise and don't discourage because other person stopped. Happy mylotting.

I agree that t's better to jog with your friends. It won't feel like working out at all because you'll be chatting & having a good time with your friends. That thing is common for girls btw.

Both jogging alone or in a group has each shortcoming. I prefer being alone as I know I am a slow jogger. Doing it in a group can be a lot of fun when the people in the group have the same endurance and fitness.
