What's your favorite movie from before 1970?

Old movie fans, what are your top picks? I especially want to hear about ones that not everyone will know: "cult" films or at least non-Oscar winners. My favorite of all time is Lawrence of Arabia, but I know that's a pretty common favorite. Harold and Maude would also be near the top. Wait, that's 1971. Why didn't I just make it "movies from before 1972"? Why do I do this to myself? I'm a terrible question writer...

Nice. I know it's cliche, but that's the best Hitchcock movie I've seen. It's the only one where I was really impressed with the ending.

Mine is Sunset Boulevard... just a wonderful movie. Oh, also The Seventh Seal (that's actually a Swedish movie, but really well-known worldwide).

Never seen Sunset, but I'll take your recommendation! I do love faded-star stories. The Seventh Seal is such crazy Swedish fun.

"Harold and Maude"! That's a nice pick for a movie, even if it is after 1970. One that is one of my absolute favorites AND is one that I'm sure few people have heard of? Well... I really like the "mods" trilogy from Stefan Jarl, especially the first one, "Dom kallar oss mods"/"They Call Us Misfits"... I think it was made in the late 60s. A few of my other favorites are "King Kong" and "Bringing Up Baby" :) This is a good question and these are the ones I can think of from the top of my head, I'll definitely have to think of some more when I get home!

Obviously, its late at night, and I named two movies that I believe were AFTER 1970. I can think of one classic movie for now, which is Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Good movie!

Two (out of many favorites) are The Toy, starring Richard Pryor, and The Jerk, starring Steve Martin. Classic movies!
