I have been on a VPN for a year now mainly because I want to stay anonymous as possible even from my ISP but recently I am having issues with the VPN I am subscribed to. I can connect to the VPN server fine but when I browse the internet it does not load up any pages at all. I disconnected from my VPN and the pages load like normal. Anyone who knows about this? What could be the workaround for this?

welcome to mylot. You are from USA which has maximum number of members in mylot. In VPN if you get dialtone in your phone connection that is a signal that internet connection is on.
Try to go to internet tools and check whether DNA server and your server numbers are given properly.
