I'm saving money and working online so that I can buy my dream SLR camera. I love photography but what I have is a point and shoot digital camera. Can you suggest an SLR camera that is affordable but with quality as well.

I suggest you jump to an amateur camera and not just an entry level. Nikon d3000 and d3100 for example are really affordable DSLRs but it's not easy to find a matching lens ever you wish to buy extra lenses. Better go for d5000 or higher so you could easily find matching nikon lenses that will autofocus, even third party lenses. =)

P.S.: My photography mentor said "it's not the camera, but the eye of the photographer that makes a good photograph". You can take good pictures even with your digital point-and-shoot. You have it in you, believe in yourself. ;) If, like me, you're really into using DSLR, here are some good reads I found and read before getting my 1st DSLR a couple of years back that I hope would be helpful to you too. =) www.photo.net.ph/blogalicious/useful-photo-links/how-to-choose-your-1st-dslr/ www.popphoto.com/news/2010/11/how-pick-right-camera-body?page=0%2C1 digital-photography-school.com/actuations-shutter-count-someday-our-cameras-will-die I hope I was able to help. Good luck to you and happy shooting! =)

That's not true. Nikon D3100's and 3000's are like any nikons, they have the most compatible lenses out of all DSLR makes, Nikon has over 160 different lenses to choose from and then there's Tamron, Sigma and many others! I have a 3100 and it is a GREAT beginner camera. Accesories for these cameras are also just about unlimited. I would advise a beginner to ge a D5100 if they can afford it, else, the D3100 will also be very good! Just remember that you will spend more money on lenses than the camera if you really get into photography. I have the standard kit lens which is a 18-55mm VR nikkor lens. I still want to get a 50 or 100mm macro lens which is about 400-800 USD and also a 70-300mm telephoto lens which can be found for around 200 USD. So yes, its an expensive game but definitely worth it! And remember, your camera is only as good as it's lenses and your photo is only as good as your photographic eye is. ;-)

I would look at entry-level models from companies like Canon and Nikon. Nikon's current entry-level models are the D3100 and the D5100. They are both great cameras. Nikon sells an 18-55mm lens with those models that will serve you very well to start with. If you feel those models are a bit too expensive, you could look at an older model like the D3000 or D5000. I'm not as familiar with Canon's cameras because I shoot Nikon. You should try to go to a camera store and handle a few different models before you choose the one you want to buy. Both Canon and Nikon make great products. Which one is "better" than the other is really a matter of preference. I've had Nikon cameras for years, and my D90 was a lot more comfortable to use than any of the Canons I tried out.

I am a Nikon user and I also tried shooting with Canon, it is just the same if you just understand the basic settings such as ISO, Aperture, Shutter Speed, etc. To summarize it, if you want cheaper cameras, Nikon, I would suggest buying either a brand new (if they have one) Nikon D90 because they have autofocus within the body where some cheaper lenses may be on autofocus and of course, higher quality of photos. But if you want cheaper accessories, try Canon, like Canon 550D or Canon 1100D.

I would suggest you look at the Canon Rebel Series or the Nikon. If money is an issue I would suggest that you look at a model or two back. Usually they make very minor changes every six months or so and you may be able to save a few bucks by giving up a few mp or having a smaller review screen. Another way to save money is to buy a Manufacturer refurbished camera. These have a full warranty and cost a couple of hundred less. Many of these cameras were simply store demo or camera that were returned for minor blemishes. I have purchased several referb. cameras and they work as good as the ones I bought new. A good web site to check to see reviews and what the features are of each camera is www.dpreview.com Often times they will say in the review what changes have been made and say if it is worth upgrading. One camera I bought was a previous model because the only change was a larger review screen, and they added 2 mp (which was not significant) and they changed the battery style, which did not give it any longer life but meant that you could not use the batteries that they had been using in the previous cameras in that series. When purchasing a previous model make sure you check out the sensor and processor to make sure they did not upgrade those. Those are major upgrades and usually worth the extra money to get the upgrade.

Well I have a Nikon D3100 camera with me and it is a good camera for beginners. But I would suggest to her that she would buy Canon cameras like maybe Canon 550D or 1100D for beginners. Canon DSLRs sell cheaper lenses than Nikon does, not to be bias.

Hello. Digital camera is fine with me as I don't know anyting about the technical aspects of photograhy. Lolz. Point and shoot is fine with me. If you are from the Philippines, I suggest you check CANONs dslrs. Canon is the only camera that has a service country here, I believe.

there are many DSLR cameras ranging from $400 to $2000. For a starter, i think $500 range camera will do. i do not know the rules here. i do not know if i am permitted to suggest a particular model or make.
