Greetings. Alessandro Del Pierro as Juventus president Andrea Agnelli confirmed seems to be in his last season in the "Old Lady", so that makes me wonder, should club's legendary players be judged with clearly football criteria in their last parts of their career or should be treated a little more easy, considering the offer to the club in the past? Players like Del Pierro, Totti, Puyol, Giggs, Scholes, Schweinsteiger, Casillas, Xavi, Gatusso, Gerrard, Lampard, Drogba, Ferdinand and other players that I can't recall right now shouldn't be treated with just football criteria in my opinion and as United keeps the legends of the club till the end they get other benefits from this action, which is having an inspiring leader in the locker room and a player who can make new players understand easier the club they come too. Anyway, your thoughts about it?

I think Del Pierro is an icon of Juventus. And I think he has had a long and successful career. So if he decides to hang his boot after this season especially if Juve win the Serie A title, it will not come to me as a big surprise. Cheers! Ram

Yeap I agree with you, I don't think that he requested an amount of money that the team couldn't afford so they should have kept him. Even this year he was able to score some crucial goals for Juventus so he even offered solutions to the club when needed.

His contract was ended by Juventus. They didn't want to extend it anymore. That's just sad.

Juventus should respect their legend juventus should treat better their legend.. allesandro del piero had showed his loyalty when Juventus only play in Serie B.. when many player Juventus left the team.. i think Juventus must follow what AS ROMA and Inter do for their legend..

Yeap it's really sad to end his career like this. Especially nowadays where less and less players are devoted to one club.

Loyalty is a thing of the past, for both clubs and players, it is very rare to find a Maldini, Neville or Giggs. Players will seek greener pasture or high pay while clubs are unwilling to let them stay till their retirement age. As a player gets older, he might take a longer period to recover. At such, clubs will be unwilling to continue paying them salary while they can't contribute much on the field.

The weird thing though about Del Pierro is that he did offer this year in Juventus. He scored against Roma in the Cup and against Lazio in a 2-1 victory for Juventus. He was still able to offer a good 30 mins boost for Juventus.

Del Piero is the captain of the Juventus and he gives all to the team! He cannot be treated in this way! I think Juventus is taking a bad decision because Del Piero can still give a lot to the team. He is not only a good player that can be used in Coppa Italia, but he can also play little parts of matches. In this season he has been decisive in more than one occasion. I think Juventus doesn't sell him even because he is the icon of the team and he has a positive influence on the entire team and he can give advices to youngers thanks to his experience. Juventus should definitely hold this wonderful player for at least one more year and then to offer him a place in the coach team.

the unfortunate think though is that it seems like they did this mistake and they don't seem like thinking of fixing it. :(

that is the most stupid decision agnelli will ever do we all expected that there will be a contract for an other year after that he will take a poistion in the club as pavel nedved did but that didnt happen and they surprised all the fans that he wont continue in the club for next season but what makes us crazy that del piero will leave and they will buy boriello after the loan and also by keeping matri ,vuci, quagliarleela and marotta's attempts to buy another super striker it seems that they wont have place for delpiero any more which will make all of us get angry specially when watching boriello in juve and del piero after 20 years in the club leaves it to another club..i cant imagine alex with other shirt

You are right. I don't think that Del Pierro did any harm to Juventus in the last years, even this year that he didn't play very much-even though he did score some goals-he said that he expected not to have much playing time and he didn't whine about it. Some players I think that everyone thinks of them as one team players, it kind of reminds me the Raul, I still think of him as a Real Madrid player than a Schalke one.

They shouldn't just abandon a legend. He deserves to be treated with respect. He has played for Juventus for so long, why would they just leave him in the dark? I really don't get that. I hope he moves on, away from that awful place and I hope that he becomes a manager or something, or at least something that has to do with soccer.

Yeap, a big mistake for Juventus. I heard that he is thinking of trying in the MLS, though I'd like to see him in EPL in a mid-table squad. I think he has another good year to give.
