I think hat we have to provide for them though- since they rarely have change...They usually get paper bill for the fare. We have to understand... But if you really want your change you can ask for it.

Lady... It is their obligation to be ready for a change; it is their obligation to give change... it is not something that we ask from them....

Yes, that is one- but some drivers are really stubborn and take advantage of those people who don't bother asking for change.. maybe you should just list down the plate number and report it so they would do the right thing.

I hate that too! They always lie that they don't have a change.

I think telling that they don't have a change is their tactic that most of us fall for because we don't have a choice if we also do not have smaller bills with us. It is actually one of the lies I hate the most.

It isn't only the cab drivers but otehr drivers in the public transport like jeep drivers and tricycle drivers. I think somehow they like to think that passengers will conveniently forgot to ask for change. I experienced it too many times and I learned to keep some coins in my wallet. Like many drivers, I think I can relate or understand why they would want to keep the change - the oil prices had been hitting them and sometimes, they need to provide for their own families. But the thing is, it's unfair for the consumer who also needs the money because it is a part of the budget. For me, every cent or peso coin count since you never know when you will need it.

I so agree with Jeaneyvonne. Everybody works hard to save every penny; all of us crump just to make ends meet. I so hate it when public transport says "we are hit often due to oil price hike." It is like a farmer saying, "we are hit often due to bad weather." Awww shoots! That is part of their job to expect oil price hikes. It is just so unfair!!!

I don't think only cab drivers do so, the same happens in shops etc. So be alert and ask your change back, it's the only way. If nobody does so it's a good way to make an extra income plus if you don't ask (even it's normal to give change back) you agree with this behaviour.

I am also from the Philippines and I used to be a victim of these drivers who do not give out change. I really hate it. I feel as if I am robbed when that happen to me. There are a lot of cab drivers here in our country who are downright bad. And I believe that those taxi drivers will stay the way they are because they are stealing from people. I guess it is very obvious here that I hate taxi drivers like that. But I take everything as a learning experience. What I do now is to make sure that I have small bills with me and some coins especially when I know that I will be taking a cab that day. Also, most of the time, I always give the exact amount of fare that was registered on the meter. That is my own way of protest against abusive cab drivers, not giving extra payment.

Wow, that must be irritating! In the US, around my area at least, they always do. I usually figure their tip into the total and then ask for a certain amount back, which they're happy to give. Around here, its buses that will never give you change. But we do have cards to swipe in the buses, now, which prevents you losing money.

I agree. I am also from the Philippines and most of the cab drivers here always just takes money. I think they are not even thinking that their passengers also needs money. I kind of understand that their job is not easy but I were in their shoes, I would do my job well.
