Dog Odor

I am a dog lover and I have 3 dogs. It used to be originally 2 japanese spitz dogs whom I love so dearly but since the other 1 died due to old age, I decided to have a new one. Now I have 1 spitz and 2 dachshunds. I really love all of them. I like playing with them and carrying them all around. The problem is everytime I interact with my dogs particularly the 2 dachshunds, I smell this dog odor. I surely bathe them but I was told that I should give them a bath only once a week. Should I bathe it everyday or twice a week? How can I eliminate their dog odor? Should I change their dog food or what? I hope someone could help me.

Hi!I'm glad to hear you are enjoying your dogs! We found over the years that many ailments and unusual conditions (including a weird, funky odor with one of them) in our dogs were relieved by changing to a grain/gluten free diet. We have tried several, and the dogs like them all. Do some research on dogfoodproject.com or dogfoodadvisor.com (I think those are right) and you will be amazed at the difference between quality ingredients in foods, and garbage in many of the ones touted to be 'best', like Science Diet, Purina, and Iams. If you decide to go grain/gluten free, let us know how it goes!

I am enjoying every bit of time that I spend with them eventhough I always take a bath after I play with them. I have researched but it's more on the dog hygiene and not the food intake though I have switched brands of dog foods but none of them seems to work. I think I'll try the gluten free diet... Thanks for the advice! ^_^

Itis really not nice to smell like a dog but for this,you might as well consult a vet for what i know bathing dogs daily is really not an issue.

I have consulted with a vet and he told me that dachshunds are low maintenance dogs so I could just bathe them once a week but the odor is really bad and it sticks to me when I play with them. Thus, I ALWAYS take a bath after I play with them. It's a pain but I can't help it. I love them but they just stink. T_T
