Physical Therapy Assistant schools

I'm in school right now because I *thought* that finishing my degree was the best thing to do. However, after classes that I was told would be approved (13 classes!) for transfer were not and I do not want to spend thousands of dollars to get a degree I do not want, I'm looking into going into physical therapy. My original plan was to finish up my BA in Human Resources because I was told I only needed 5 classes. The rest of my Pell Grant would have covered almost the entire expense. Then when DH gets out of the military, I was going to work and enroll in a Doctorate Program for Physical Therapy. Now I just want an Associates in Physical Therapy. I thought this was going to be fairly easy to achieve, but I was wrong! In San Diego there is ONE, only one, school that has any type of physical therapy degree and they are full until the 2013-2014 school year. How crazy is that?
Anyone have an experience with issues like this?
