A national competition bull riding event came to my city a while back. I'm not particularly into such things but know some people are. Anyway they ran news spots on the local news several times. Somehow, even though it is better for safety and all, I just have trouble seeing it the same when the cowboys are wearing motorcycle style helmets instead of cowboy hats. I guess it would also look weird if they wore cowboy hats on top of the helmets though.
