I actually don't know the full benefits of this one. I am just applying as a volunteer and i have to pay 300 pesos monthly. or maybe about $8 monthly. so that my parents would get something as benefits every time they were hospitalised. it is a small amount to pay. but i hope that my parents won't get hospitalized any more again. that they would stay health always.

You can go to their website at www.sss.gov.ph and find information on the benefits you are entitled to as a member. 300 pesos is good enough. I pay for my mother's sss membership, quarterly, and I think it's on the same bracket. She's on it for 7 years now, so in about 3 years more, she can already start getting that monthly pension from SSS, since she's just turned 60. We haven't used her account for loans, yet, but we plan to, soon.
I will also be changing my status from employed to voluntary, since I already stopped working, and I would have to continue paying a monthly premium of more than 1,500 pesos.
Do you also have philhealth? That could help in your parents' medical needs.
