Creative writing requires talent and good writers are creative because they are good observers on what's happening around them. Some writers get good story concepts while they are sleeping while others has to inspire themselves. In your thoughts what makes a good a writer? What are the ingredients for writing better and better?

I believe that Imagination is the one of the most important commodity for a writer. Even a little child can make a simple story but he is not able to create the wonders which is created by a real writer. So he must have the capability to express the things in a good imaginative way then telling the things quite usually. Then comes the language. Language is the one of the another essential commodity needed by a writer to express his mind or his thoughts. If a writer is not able to express his thoughts through his language the writings become a utter failure. So this is very important.

When imagination is coupled with the right use of words, it could create wonders. A great story teller should have imagination and out of the box thinking to relate incidents in a narrative way interesting to his readers.

I think what makes good writing, first & foremmost is having good ideas coupled with good words. Words should be structured in a way where you can visualize, think, feel,& hear what the writer is trying to say in his writings. Also, like the gentleman before me had said, imagination.

That's right. It's like painting a picture with the effective use of words to help readers to visualize the situation. Good writers are expert in grabbing reader attention by introducing characters or plots using all sorts of background descriptions.

For sure, I think a good writer needs creativity as the most important. The rest comes with practice and time. I love to write, hence me being on here, but I lack creativity enough to piece together a decent story or basic plot. I have a pretty strong grasp on grammar and punctuation, sometime spelling gets away from me, but I can't do anything because my stories usually end very quickly without much climax.

That's true. It's like a painting a story by being a wordsmith. Ultimately, it's the style and presentation of the story makes it a popular read.
