Why Are Most YouTube-Post 'Descriptions' More Like 'Link-Lists'?

Used to be, "descriptions" were used to describe the videos they accompanied. Somewhere along the line, YouTube video-posts became less-&-less 'people expressing themselves in video and sharing the expression with friends' & more-&-more 'people displaying their "connectedness" (nerdy-ness) and spreading it (like a v-you-know-what-rus) in order to get more display-credits.' And that's what YouTube was MADE for ... maybe not 'what it was first imagined as' (the 'people expressing themselves in video and sharing the expression with friends'-reason), but rather 'how the money-people were convinced to support it.' Would it be a hopeless cause to try to get enough nerds together to bring YouTube back from the lascivious popularity-circus it's become? If there is hope, how might I find it? What should I do to bring the nerd-friends back?
