American movies are shown all over the world, but what are your favorite movies from your own country? That is, if you're from Italy, what are your fav Italian movies, if from India, what are your fav Indian films, etc.? I like to discover new movies from all over. Let me know what you like.

My favourite Italian movies are horror by Dario Argento like "deep red". I like even italian comedy 70-80's. I like actors like Carlo Verdone, Lino Banfi, Cristian De Sica, Paolo Villaggio, Tomas Milian, Benigni and so on. Those are italian comedy actors. I think Benigni is the most famous outside Italy maybe you know him. Do you like any italian actor/actress?

Benigni is better well known in the U.S. than the others, but most people know only Life is Beautiful,if they know any of his work at all. I'll have to check out Argento. A theater I go to in NYC has festivals from different countries, they are doing one on new Italian cinema in June. When the schedule comes out I'll mention some of the titles to you to see if you know them.

yes, "Life is beautiful" is the most known Benigni's movie. It is dramatic. I like most the comic side of Benigni, he did lot of comedy movies, maybe they didnt' translate them in other languages so they aren't so famous abroad. I know that the movie "Il mostro" was translated in french and I saw it at the university as french exercise lol. I think that movie translated lose some of comedy. Well tell me some italian movie titles when the schedule will come. :) Check out for Dario Argento's movie! they are classic of horror. "Profondo rosso" ("deep red" in english) and "suspiria" are the most famous. the soundtrack is very cool to. It is played by the Goblin, that play all Argento's movie soundtracks.

Yes, I liked Michael Collins. I was in my college's Irish cultural club, so I knew his importance before I saw the movie. (And my mother's maiden name is Collins. ;-) ) Also enjoyed the movies written by Roddy Doyle--The Van, The Snapper, The Commitments.

Sometimes, yes! We also sponsored Irish bands at the college, had an annual trip to the St. Paddy's Day parade in NYC, and had speakers come in to talk about Irish culture and politics. And a few of us on our own went to protest marches when the hunger strikes were going on. But yes, there was no small amount of Guinness and Harp consumed as well...

Excellent choices, I want to see all of these. There's been a lot of talk in the U.S. recently about the 'Three Amigos': Alfonso Cuarón, Alejandro González Iñárritu, and Guillermo Del Toro. I liked '21 Grams' and have heard a lot of good things about 'Children of Men' and 'Pan's Labyrinth.'

My favorite movie is SHOLEY. Big B, the amitabh bachhan, dharmendra, Hema malini, Jaya bhadudi, sanjiv kumar and amjadkhan the gabber are the key actors in this bollywood film. It was produced long back before 35 years but any person from India will comment it as a best movie.
