Not just a coin bank...

I never have enough money to save since I am sending an amount to my sister every payday before. She was still in school at that time and she really need a help from me. I have this board-mate who decided to move out from our place, and as a remembrance she gave me her coin bank. Everyday whenever I have an extra coin I manage to drop it at my coin bank and don't mind it that much. One day my sister suddenly called me up and asked me if I still have an extra money since the money that our parents was sending to her was not enough. I kept myself for a moment and saw the coin bank at my locker and I decided to count it all and to my surprise it almost reaches the amount we were looking for. I realize its not just a coin bank and I also encourage my sister of doing so...

I truly believe in the coin bank. If you continue putting in coins left from your day, you will be able to accumulate a tidy sum unknowingly. I have a suggestion for you. If you could segregate the money you put into your coin box into three categories, it would be better. First compartment is for you to save, another for you to spend and a third for you to share. For example, if you drop in 20 cents into your coin box, you can drop 10 cents into saving, 5 cents into spending and 5 cents into sharing. If you ever need money for a particular purpose (eg, you want to buy a book), use the money in the spending section. The money in the saving section must be accumulated and subsequently, it can be used for small investments. The third compartment is for you to share. You can donate some of your money to your favourite charitable organisation. Thus you are right that it is not just a coin bank. There is much more you can do with it!

My husband and I have always kept a coin bank. We saved up from when we were married until we went on our first big international trip. We had enough money in the coin bank for all of our souvenir shopping. My daughter has a coin bank and she loves putting money in it. We have emptied it every few months and put it her savings account.
