I think a very good question for Mylot to help bring the community together is to share each other's culture, what is distinctive about your country that makes you different to everyone else and how do you think foreigners will cope with your cultures. This can be anything from language, Education, sports, festivals, holidays, food and general daily life routines. For example here in England we speak English but learn range of languages such as Spanish,German,French and Italian some private schools also teach Latin and modern Chinese. Education we leave high school at 16 and open to look for jobs, apprenticeships, scholars, sixth form A level's or College work based courses which ever route a student can continue their education to University of which i currently are studying and residing from. Popular sports over here include Football or known as soccer to much of south america and Asia is our main sport along with Rugby but we also are known for interests in Cricket,Athletics,Basketball,Golf, badminton and Tennis. Festivals we have Music festivals such as Glastonbury,Download, leeds, sonisphere etc that occur annually with popular bands from around the world play on several stages on open fields of which rockers would generally camp out for couple of nights. holidays we of course have the queen's diamond jubliee this year and also term breaks such as half term and end of term breaks in full-time education, 2 weeks at Christmas, 6 weeks in the summer, other holidays are of course Easter, May Day, Bank holiday's and Halloween. Another well celebrated holiday is bonfire night also known as guy fawkes day of which fireworks are set off as holiday is based around the gunpowder plot of guy fawkes. Food we eat that are usual to the rest of the world, cheese and pickle sandwiches, Tetley Tea, Jaffa Cakes, bangers and mash (sausages, mash and gravy), Jam Tarts and other fun foods. Please share its always interesting to know how different and unique we all are here on mylot!

How come noone every responded to this topic. It would have been nice to have seen a few people from different parts of the world share their 2 cents. Well, don't worry, here's mine. I am from the Philippines, and here we value family bond. In the family, children stick with their parents until they raise their own family. But, some would even stay with their parents if they don't have enough to get their own house, or if they so prefer to just stay within the same roof. I know that in the US and other European countries, kids leave their home after high school and get their own apartment or stay in a dormitory which is near their school. Having strong family ties is good, but it also has its negative effects such as dependency. There are a lot more to talk about Filipinos, but the one above is what I thought of discussing because its one of the very common thing around here. Thanks.
