This Peculiar Thing That My Dog Does.....

Usually my dog will not leave her food dish where it is originally put. No matter where we put her dish, before my dog eats from it, she picks it up, carries it somewhere else, then sits it down and eats from it.
On the rare occasions when she does not move the entire dish, she picks the food out of the dish and carries it someplace else. She transports the food from her dish, to another location and drops it onto the floor then eats it. LOL.
I do not know why she does this. Do you have a dog that does anything peculiar? Explain.

My friend's dog does the same thing. If she receives anything else than dry food (especially if there is something "big" - a piece of meat or a big bone) she picks the food, transports it a few inches away from her dish and then lie down and chew/eat it.
I think this comes from their ancestors. They need to keep the food down, holding it with their front paws and this is not possible if the food is inside a food dish.
It is curious how your dog transports her dish. How does she pick it?

My dog carries little pieces of food from her bowl to another location. Little pieces such as two or three individual pieces of dry dog food. lol. She doesn't lie down or hold on to it to eat though. She just takes it from her dish, carries it some place else, drops it to the floor and then eats it from a sitting position.

I remember my friend's dog used to do the same when she was only a little puppy. She was too busy to play and when the meal time came, she couldn't decide what to do: to continue the play or to eat. So she used to grab a mouthful of dry food and run back to the playground. There she used to eat a few pieces, than play, than eat another few pieces, than play and so on. She was so funny! We used to call her the pelican dog because of that!
How old is your dog?

I love that! It's adorable. What is her name? A dog I had a long time ago would eat all of his food, except one piece. Then he'd drop that one piece in the middle of the kitchen floor, and leave it. I kept thinking it was an accident, but he did it every single time. Then a dog I had after that used to bark at his food for a good five minutes before eating it. He could ignore his good all day long, but when he was finally ready to eat it, he'd growl at it, bark at it, and circle it suspiciously.

Odie is almost the same but with a particular dish. When he turn 2 years old he preferred to eat rice and I mixed it with wet dog food. But sometimes I also gave him bones. This is were he transfer it to the rag where there he would eat it. Same also with bread, dried dog food or if I gave him banana or mango well he loves to eat fruits. I put it in his bowl and he will transfer it to the rag where he would lay down and eat. He don't like to put in a floor he will find rag anywhere just to put his food. Which is neat for me.

I notice some dogs do that too. maybe they like to eat food at a place they are most comfortable in. maybe they just want to hide when eating the food so no one else would eat it..
