Gay Marriage

Right now their is a bill on the ballots to amend the constitution to ban gay marriage. This bill was put through by a Congress that is a majority Republican. It seems not long ago that Obama was trying to put through his Universal Healthcare plan which was considered to be a Socialist act that threatened the freedom of every free American in the United States. I'm having a little trouble understanding how a bill that provides Health Insurance for people who can't afford it is a threat to freedom, but a ban on Gay marriage is necessary legislature. Isn't denying Gays the right to be married an infringement on personal freedom. This is so frustrating for me because it goes to show you how messed up government has gotten in this country. Am I the only one who sees this as wrong. Come on people speak up.

I think you may be confusing this with a bill currently in North Carolina to amend the state's constitution to define marriage. This isn't a congressional act, it is a state wide referendum in N.C. and it will only affect marriage in that state.
Now, that being said, I don't necessarily agree with it. I think someone should be able to marry who ever they see fit. In fact, I don't even think the government should be involved in marriage to begin with.
As to the health care act. It is in fact a robbery of freedom, the freedom of association and a direct violation of the 10th amendment to the constitution. It doesn't matter how good the intentions are, liberties robbed in the name of good intentions are still liberties robbed. The patriot act was drafted with the "good intentions" of protecting us from terrorism, but it is still just as much a blow to liberty. The TSA and their police state style tactics were created to provide safety to travelers, good intentions, how ever, does that make it any less of a loss of liberty?

Thanks for the correction. Please explain how health care for those who cant afford it is unconstitutional.

It's actually quite simple and straight forward.
First, here is nothing in the U.S. constitution that authorizes the Federal government to force a citizen to purchase a product or service (no, the interstate commerce clause does not authorize this either).
Second, there is nothing in the U.S constitution that authorizes the Federal government to provide healthcare, therefore, the 10th amendment becomes relevant here and such a provision would be deferred to the states.

The U.S, Constitution was drafted before anyone knew what health care was, and the fact is far to many people are dieing because they cant afford to see a doctor. Add this to the fact that corporations in an effort to squeeze out every dime are cutting benefits for employees, and insurance companies keep asking for more and more. At some point the government has to step in and say enough is enough. That's why I believe in government, because they are the great equalizer between the haves and the have nots. Take them out of the equation and we are left in a world where the rich would run over small children who happened to be on the road they chose to drive on.

I think it is quite wrong to ban gay marriage- what is wrong with that? They also have a right to be married t the person they love, don't they?
i agree, that it hinders their freedom.. I hope they think twice about this.. gay couples might protest to this.

I don't see the harm in the situation one little bit. Everyone says marriage is a sacred institution, and should only be shared between a man and a woman. The Constitution calls for separation between church and state so therefor the government can make no laws banning marriage. If the church does not wish to marry a coupke they are within their rights, but if there is a church that will then the couple has every right to hold that ceremony.
