Keeping only healthy food

So, I was watching Dr. Oz, the greatest show ever..lol, and he gave me this great idea. He said that him and his wife only buy healhy food, including their snacks, that way if their kids do decide to snack they only snack on healthy stuff. I think this is such a great idea. And I am planning to implement this in my home. We usually buy carb loaded stuff like crackers, cookies, or candies. And while I know these things are wrong I also know how much my kids like them and lets be honest we all love are kids happy. But I am coming the conclusion their health is more important than their happiness. Ugh that hurt, but it's true. I want them healthy. So I am planning to research some of the cheaper healthy snacks and put this plan into action next shopping trip. I hope this all goes over well. Because while I am attempting a lifestyle change it is time to encourage the entire family on this path.

Well their health is kind of their happiness. They might be upset at the lack of junk, but ultimately eating lots of junk would cause them to have health problems and then that wouldn't make them very happy! Their happiness really shouldn't rely on whether or not they get cookies and candies anyway. So I applaud you for making that choice! It's good for your kids and for you and it's going to make it easier to say no to junk when you're making food at home (cause there will be so little junk at home!).

Thank you thank you I am taking a bow..lol.. you are right that happiness should not come from food. And I beleive that I am the root cuase of why food makes them so happy because I am overweight and it makes me that way, but I am making a big effort to get healthy. I want to lose weight but health is more important. So I know if I eat healthy the weight will go with it.I am happy about the choice I have made and excited to get going a new lifestyle for my kiddos husband and I

Sounds like you're on the right track and I'm so glad you're going to try and be a good example to your kids and hubby! I have no doubt that with a new healthy lifestyle and diet, you'll lose weight the right way and feel great doing it!

it is always effective if someone or a group is also doing a lifestyle with you. anything that one wants to be changed, it is advisable to bring along others to keep up the spirit and sharing the benefits and updates of doing it. i think healthy snack food is necessary to change the image of snack food. there must be some healthy ways of snacking.

that is a great idea indeed- since they'd have no choice but to eat the food that is there- that is a sacrifice for us too though. If only healthy foods are as delicious as the not so healthy ones, it'd be easier.

Your youngsters will get used to their new snacks once they know you won't buy the type they are used too. Who knows, they may like them from the beginning. You are making a wise choice.
