What type of genre do you like to write?

I prefer writing stories which are dark or violent in nature... fiction bordering on reality. Not that I am prone to suppress violence, but I use this as an outlet for my negative emotions. (In this world we're living in? Who wouldn't be on the verge of an absolute nervous breakdown?) I am currently working on a novel which have a lot of action, has some romance, a cup of angst and a whole lot of other emotions mixed together into the melange which is my manuscript. (You want a copy, you buy it from me... hahahaha. Seriously.)Writing these 'dark, Gothic literature' serves to make me a person who is open to both criticism and praise without losing my head altogether when my emotions reach the boiling point. How about you? What type of story do you write?

I prefer writing poems, for the creative aura for writing poems is in my blood, I feel. Although I have published short stories, I love to write poems -almost all of all types; Writing short stories takes a longer time than writing poems, this is for my convenience and belief. You become one with the creativity, your Muse, and poetic flow continues without any stop. As far as my stories are concerned they are social, philosophical in themes. with regards S.Radhamani

I also love poetry. My favorite is Edgar Allan Poe's The Raven. Nevermore... :)

I am always young at heart and always curious of things. I have written novels as well. Unfortunately, not one of them has ever been published. One critique told me that novels particularly romance types are not my genre. I was really working for fantasy, mystery fiction but none of those are available in my country that I decided to settle on the romance genre. But, it had seemed that I can't write about the sexy scenes lol... But, its not about that. Anyway, if I will have the chance, like fate dropping me a message that I start writing novels again. I will write about a mystery, adventure type with a twist of romantic comedy.

I see that you are from my very own lovely country. I was really trying to publish at SGE and Twin Hearts and they both rejected me he he. Precious Hearts seems to be for professionals so that will be a real challenge for me. Anyway, I did finished another 2 novels in 2005 but was too afraid to find a publisher for these. So, when I had my third child in 2008, I completely forgot about these novels. I am still terrified when I think of pursuing my dream as a novelist and my situation is not the same as yesterday. But... if I am going to publish at least one, I will let you know and thank you for your kind words :)

Self-help! Now that's rare! Not a lot of people find it easy to write self-help articles.

For some reason my outlet is the opposite. If I go with sci-fi for example I will make a beautiful world to calm the negative vibs. Something like say the movie script avatar but if I was the writer would have changed some of the action parts from all the military aggression to a conflict with nature. That kind of thing. Thanks for sharing...have you tried going that route? Did it work well for you or not very well? How is dark, violent appealing exactly? Tell me or I will shoot you. - just joking

Hahhahhahaha.... Actually I'm writing a story that involves assassins. Quite sci-fi as well, since some of the characters were experimented upon and turned into beasts. The only thing that keeps them from turning into a total 'beast' is a pill which they have to take 30 minutes after they use their beast form.

Hi moonlight i prefer the comedy genre, i am currently concentrating on making some cash before i work on the story, i use to write short stories which i published in my blog, but that got hacked now i have no proof that i was a writer, but ya i still like the comical point of view of life, because even though there are unjust things happening around me, thing about them for some time gives me major migraines for days.

It's really hard to make people laugh. But if you have the knack for it, then go for it. I may like dark stuff, but I also stop for a bit of good, humorous stories.

i am happy that you have found your niche in writing your own stories. i have yet to write my own novel (hopefully it happens in five years time). if ever it happens, i will write about life in the countryside. i think there is a longing for everyone to have this relaxing mood and community-like relationship. the city is simply very impersonal. and people want to see the other "world."

The thing that I like to write about most is love stories. This is because it is something that everyone is able to relate to in some kind of way in their lives, and that means that I always have a large audience for the books that I choose to write. I have a couple of short stories published, and I would like to be able to publish another one by the end of the year if everything goes according to plan. I love to write, and I find that it is a welcome release from everything that is stressful about our modern day lives.

My favorite genre is high fantasy, and for awhile that was all I wrote. I just love a good vs. evil showdown in a whole new world filled with myth, magic, and legend! I'm all for an epic quest to save the world. Recently I've been writing more urban fantasy (fantasy that takes place in the real world) and I'm not sure why I'm being drawn to it. I guess I kind of like the clash between reality and fantasy and seeing how the two mesh or clash together.

I stick to mostly fantasy type genres really. I love being able to gamble ideas thus mixing them at times to produce a compelling story that has readers on the edges of their seats wanting more. Creating different worlds, developing characters who are either strong, weak, or in between. And not only that introducing the background and environment surrounding those characters. I find it far easier to come up with ideas for a fantasy novel because generally it's an anything goes fictional story. I think this is one reason it's so popular. Like you I prefer to put in a blend of drama, angst, action, etc., within my stories. Most of mine have a hidden message in them that are geared toward a younger audience. Of which many don't even realize until after they've finished reading the book. I've already self-published one novel, but I think it could use a large overhaul with more details and less choppy writing, more specifics. The reason why is because I am currently writing the sequel out, and the sequel has exactly that: More specifics, more details, better written. This is the one I am hoping to find an agent if I ever can. Sometimes my hopes get dashed and all. I'm also trying my hand at sci-fi, first time ever actually- but that one will never be published into an e-book or normal book. Not unless it passes for a good sci-fi book and actually makes sense. Which I doubt. But it's a learning process as I go. I do prefer writing fantasy though.

If i were to write a story or poem, i'd prefer fantasy or dark stories too, since they are easier to make and anything can happen. I like writing horror the most, or tragic ones..

Hi, I don't know what genre it falls under but I like writing in first person and mostly, they are just my own perception of things, people and events. Sometimes for creativity, I add characters and twists the events. I also like writing open endings. Perhaps because I really don't know how to end my stories or I don't personally want to end them but mostly, I want to leave my readers thinking.
