It's breaking my heart

I have two cats and I absolutely adore them but now because certain conditions have changed I have to give up one of them and it's just horrible to me because I perceve my cats as actual friends. After I give away my cat I probably won't be able to see her more than once a year and there is a possibility that I never see her again nad I'm worried.I was just wondering has anyone faced a similar issue and if you did how would you deal with it?

I have a little cat rescue and I have placed some cats in new homes. I try to not get too attached to the ones I hope to place because it would tear me up to place one of the permanent residents of the house. I'm so sorry to hear that you will be losing one of your cats, I consider my cats my children...

I don't like looking a such sites because I can't do anything aboutthese animals and if there is anything that makes me soft this would be animlas of..well,allmost..all kinds and sizes and breeds. By the way, there is a cat there named Rio that looks almost the same as my cat-that specific strange coloring that makes her special although their personalities are different as night and day...

This is so incredibly nice of you and it restores a little bit of my faith in humanity.I had a friend with a similar idea but she gave up after a while because she had some massive changes in her life...

I had to give up two cats when I was a child. One was at my relatives home because we were not allowed to have pets in our apartment, but he got mean as they left him in a cage so they got rid of him. The other again an apartment we were not allowed to have pets in and like an excited 9yr old is I told my friend who was a neighbor who told her mother who told the manager who told the landlord who said they'd not renew our lease if we kept the cat. We took the cat back to the farm we got her from and the landlord still made us move anyway.

A lot of mean landlords in my discussion. It feels so strange to me because I don't see how pets, give the proper care, especially cats can damage the property or annoy the neighbours so I think it generally comes the the landlords personality and it's unbelievable that someone will dislike something so adorable and fluffy as cats. I felt very bad for the first kitty because he was kicked out of his home and then he was kept in a cage and then he was kicked out again,just...the poor thing...

Well I know from my Aunt as she's a landlord that they've had to sell a place because there was an owner who did not have their cat fixed nor properly cared for and the town house stunk badly even after professional sanitization and ripping out the carpeting. But part was alos my Mother didn't want to pay the extra security deposit or additional rent to keep the cat. Yep my Grandpa was mean by cooping up Toby, which made him mean. If they were going to do that they should of never agreed to keep the cat for me.

Your aunt had trouble because the owner wasn't responsible and didn't take good care of their pet. I generally believe that there is no difference between a person with a pet and a person without one if he pet is properly cleaned after and it doesn't disturb the peace, which would probably come of as a little bit of hipocrisy since my cats are BOTH very vocal and loud but I can't control them and we did our best to soundproof our apartament and it's ours so we don't have to worry about landlords. I think it's a little unfair to have different rent because you have a pet but after hearing about your aun's issues I guess I can see why this is kind of neccessary for landlords to be sure but some people still can't afford such a thing.I suppose your grandfather wasn't trying to be mean he just didn't know or wasn't capable of proper pet care...

These things happen. I know how you feel though. I have three cats, and I love each and every one of them. They are like my family, but sometimes, you have to do what is best for you and what is best for them.

I feel like giving up my cat is not what's best for her OR me but it is neccessary. I know it's not that big of a deal and I should be happy because I think her new home would be better for her since my other cat is taking herself waaay too serioudly and likes to show dominance so the one that I'll give up is a little bit opressed.Despite the fact that it's better for her(logically,I don't feel it that way, though) I still can't help feeling miserable...

We did have a situation like this where a landlord changed our lease or tried to anyway. I talked to my lawyer and she couldn't change it mid lease so I made it clear she was breaking her lease took my money I would have paid her and left. Her house stood empty until she lost it to foreclosure becasue her rent was too high. Karma.

hi friend, well i have not faced such situation exactly like you but yes there are times when you develop a strange bond with some animals, be it your pet or not. we had a storage room in our house, and oneday my papa decided to clean it up, he opened the door of the room , and from inside tender voices "meoww" " moeeaw" are coming, my dad understood that these are baby kittens shouting, may be there mom had gone in search of their food, there was not mom beside them and few minutes later my dad took two cute little small kittens in his hands and came out of the room. they were sooo cute, i cant explain in my words, i took many pictures of them, i spend 2 hours with them playing and my bro too was in love with them. but then my mom said they must be hungry and their mom must be searching them. so we decide to keep them outside our home, in case their mom came searching and find them.i kept a small bowl of milk beside them so that they can have it in case they are hungry.but they kept shouting "meoaw" meoaw" for their mom. in the morning there was no kittens outside my home, probably their mom have found them or they got lost!! or they were killed by someone's pet dog?? sooo many questions cropped on my mind, but i never found them again, i felt so bad that day even my bro got upset.

The best you can do is hope for the best. I'm glad that I at least got to insure a bright and nice future for my cat. There is a pretty high probability that their mother took them and if she didn't than you can at least be blissfully unaware. Worrying won't do you any good and positive attitude is a very important thing.

I must say Don't give up! You must be strong. I never had cats, but watched years ago in "Friends" how Ross give up his monkey "Marsel" and Ross was sad vary long time. He give up his monkey to the zoo where he can visit her. After it ,the zoo was sold hes monkey and the monkey become a movie star. So don't worry about you cat - she will be ok. Just smile and move on. :)

Oh, that's so sad! I'm so sorry that you may have to lose one of your cats. I've never really been in the same position, as I'm a fairly new cat-owner myself. I don't know what I would do if I had to give up my precious kitty, she's totally my baby! I think of her pretty much as my little child who's never going to grow up. There's no replacement for her. I can't really give you any tips, but I wish you and your little kitty the best of luck and hopefully you'll be able to see her again.

I hope I will be able to see her again as well but my chances are pretty slim for seeing her more that once or twice a year anyway.I'm still hoping to find a way to keep her but I guess it's not happening.Anyway, thank you for your response and I wish you the best of luck with your cat and I hope you never have to deal with any similar problems...

I understand how you feel because I've been there myself. There were times when we'd have to move and decide which animals to take and which to find homes for. We always kept the animal that we've had the longest or was the best behaved. But even still it was always hard and it often made us depressed. It is hard, sometimes downright impossible to let go of an animal that you become attached to. How did I deal with it? It wasn't easy. I had to force myself to continue doing my normal activities and let myself heal through each day. Of all the animals though that I've had to give up for better care or lost tragically, I miss Shadow (2008) and Chance (2011) the most. Actually.. I miss all of them. But I've raised Shadow from 8 weeks of age to 14 years of age, and Chance I helped with his birth, freed him from the sack, got him to breathe and had to bottle feed him. So yes, they are terribly missed. It can be really hard at times. But keep moving forward. It's all you can do sometimes. : /

I used to have cats before but when I moved in here in the city, I am no longer allowed to have pets with me because it is not allowed in the building where we are living. it was sad at first but then eventually I get the hang of it because I do not have any other choice but let go having pets. After all, I can get to visit them during weekends anyway since they are still living with some relatives.

In my country there're a very minimal number of pet limitations so it makes me sad whenI hear about a previous pet owner having to give up their animals because of such a thing but I'm happy that you get to visit them.
