Obama: "I am all the good things, rolled into one"

At the official White House website, you can read biographies of all the US Presidents. But these days, those bios are appended with the accomplishments of - you guessed it - Barack Obama. Obama's name is inserted into the biography of every president since Calvin Coolidge (excepting Gerald Ford). In every case, where the accomplishments of an historical president are detailed, there is a bulleted list of how Obama has added to those accomplishments, fixed them or just gone them one better. For example, here is the Obamanated version of Calvin Coolidge's biography: "On Feb. 22, 1924 Calvin Coolidge became the first president to make a public radio address to the American people. President Coolidge later helped create the Federal Radio Commission, which has now evolved to become the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). President Obama became the first president to hold virtual gatherings and town halls using Twitter, Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn, etc." Now words like "narcissistic" come to mind here, but what is really happening is just an extension of the hero-worship that is constantly being created and encouraged by this administration. It was just last week, I think, when I heard Obama tell a crowd to "believe in me". Not, "believe in America" or "believe in my policies" but a call to worship that I remember Jesus voicing to his disciples - "believe in me". http://www.commentarymagazine.com/2012/05/15/obama-drops-his-name-into-presidential-biographies/ I think America has come to a very dangerous time. A time when millions of voters are too young and too uneducated to know any better. A time when image is everything and Obama works solely on his image, setting himself up as being all the things that made each of his predecessors great. This week, Newsweek actually has a picture of Obama on the cover with a HALO over his head. George Washington didn't want to be king, perhaps that's why Obama hasn't inserted his name into George's bio - Obama does want to be king.

This is his actual quote on the whole thing. "Bottom line is I still believe in the American people and I still believe in you and I hope you still believe in me," Obama said. "Because I'm as determined as I've ever been to make sure that this country stays on the right path. We're moving forward, we're not going backward." http://content.usatoday.com/communities/theoval/post/2012/05/obama-dines-at-clooney-place/1#.T7MeSHlYsa0 As to the whole thing about the Whitehouse.gov site they aren't tampering with the History of the Presidents. They are also in Campaign mode so if people find that they like the FCC or something they might like to know what Obama did that was close to that. Even though I am confused on this one as the FCC didn't create the World Wide Web. DARPA did if you want to say who made the Internet. That was when you had to type in IP Addresses to connect to computers. The World Wide Web and the DNS service which allows us to type in Domain names allowed the Internet to become revolutionary and the World Wide Web is controlled by ICANN. So I would say that this isn't anything more than that.

You've focused on the FCC, but that is just one example. There are many, many and all of them are nothing but shameless self-promotion. These comments are at the end of the official biographies of historical presidents - this is not an appropriate place for campaigning and brazen attempts to steal glory from your predecessors. How about his FDR addition? "On August 14, 1935, President Roosevelt signed the Social Security Act. Today the Obama Administration continues to protect seniors and ensure Social Security will be there for future generations." Hey, he's even proud of his Nixonian accomplishments: "In 1973, Richard Nixon created The President’s Export Council, which was expanded and reconstituted under President Jimmy Carter in 1979. Today the PEC continues to work towards reaching President Obama’s goal of doubling the nation’s exports by 2014’s end." I know the man is obsessed with his own imagined importance but it's likely that these additions were written and inserted by his vacant-eyed zombie staff and supporters. There's no good way to spin putting campaign rhetoric in what are supposed to be historical biographies of past presidents. He has a campaign and he's got every right to use his campaign to spread the good word about his greatness. The website lists all the presidents and says "learn more about each president" but instead gives you "see why Obama is greater than that president". This is the historical part of the official White House website which I am sure is not being paid for with OBama's campaign funds. That's your tax dollars at work for Obama, as usual.

I am wondering what HIS biography will say when the time comes he is HISTORY? I took the opinion, early into this that he was a very misguided fool. Now I think we are the misguided fools, and he is sly as a fox. When a people have no foundation, they are easily led and easily fooled. Hero's don't need to toot their own horn.

aschatria, do you know the American Constitution, have you studied our history? It takes more than being crazy courageous to lead. Any one can jump off a cliff, but I don't know as I'd want to follow them. America does not need someone who wants to be king. We do not elect 'kings'. Nor do we ask superheros to lead us. We understand it takes more than personality and bluster to be great.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm proud to have a President who is so humble. Our other presidents, like Bush, were always going on and on about how great they were and how much they accomplished compared to other presidents. It's nice to know that this guy just really holds his nose down near that grindstone and takes it all in stride. A true example for the rest of us. And his supporters and lackeys being so humble and soft-spoken is also something to be admired. ... I just had to know what it felt like on opposite day. My skin is crawling.

That's exactly the feeling I had but couldn't put a name to. Now I realize what my first reaction was. Creepy. It's just creepy.

You're right, the word narcissist does come to mind, along with a few others, egomaniac, braggart, vain, conceited, self-absorbed, self-aggrandizing... It is astounding to see the extent to which he will go to get the least little bit of attention or recognition. It's almost painful to see and pitiful when you consider it. He has no real accomplishments to show, so he has to attach himself to great men, riding their coattails so to speak, so he can create the illusion that he is great as well. Any normal person holding the office of President of the United States wouldn't even consider such a thing. They would regard it as far beneath them. Not so for Obama it seems. He will go to any extent to glorify himself, including trying to hijack the accomplishments of past presidents and claim them for his own grandeur. Truly great men don't need to boast or brag. They let their actions speak for them. Obama clearly thinks he is the greatest president ever and he doesn't hesitate to tell it. He really is a legend in his own mind. His worshipers agree with him but to me, he's just a huge embarrassment. I've never been more ashamed of a president in all my life.

I don't really think that America will be that dangerous, because i think Obama was not a kind of that guy

An uninformed public, worshiping a cult of personality rather than educating itself on issues is dangerous. The future depends on what we do today. A charismatic failure is not what we need. We need to put into place the policies that guarantee our freedom and our future. This is not American Idol, this is real life and the dangers are very real. Obama is what he appears, an empty suit. The emperor has no clothes and everyone is loathe to admit it.
